chazpowerslide Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Ok, done the backup, ready now to install Windows 7 as an upgrade to POXY VISTA. So I have the little plastic windows thingy that contains the product key. Easy peasy I think, pop in the product key and it'll be done in a jiffy. So an hour later I still can't find out where to enter the f**king product key. I mean I wouldn't class myself as thick but it's not obvious to me after trawling the Microsoft website how I do this. I'm really p****d off, why can't there just be a BIG f**k OFF BUTTON that says ENTER PRODUCT KEY HERE. goodness me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And breath.......................... So, a pointer in the right direction would be nice if any of you chaps could help out. TIA Chaz Quote
langy Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Buy a Mac Product key should be on the original CD sleeve, big long number circa 20 - 25 digits Quote
pete275 Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 assuming you've now got windows 7 on there, right click my computer, system properties, "change product key" at the bottom. hth Quote
Andy Banks Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Have you actually installed Win7? Was it an upgrade or full version? When you boot from the Win7 cd (or run it from Windows Vista) IIRC it should ask you for the product key after a few mins of a**ing about. If it can wait 'till Monday, and you're around I'll come up as I need to fetch those wings back anyway. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 On the couple of upgrades I've done it's not actually asked for the key at the start of the process, as in previous versions. It's come right at the end. Through me the first time, I must admit. Quote
Dibby Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Did you upgrade from Vista? Far safer to wipe Vista and do a fresh install, less to go wrong and get left behind. If it doesn't ask for a key and works just fine, don't go fixing things that ain't broken Quote
chazpowerslide Posted May 26, 2011 Author Posted May 26, 2011 I purchased the upgrade from vista to 7 from PC world (best price) This is the one that comes in the CD size pack but only contains a product key, no CD ect. Inside the pack the instructions say.... 1) back up yor PC 2) Click Start button 3) Type Windows Any Time Upgrade in the search box 4) Click Windows Any Time Upgrade, then click Enter An Upgrade Key. 5) type in you upgrade key then click Next. 6) Follow the on screen instructions to complete your upgrade. Your PC will start automatically. THAT'S IT. NOW YOU ARE RUNNING WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM. the best entertainment experience on you PC. Trouble is that on the anytime upgrade page there is NO option to enter the product key. Not a dickybird. Chaz. Quote
chazpowerslide Posted May 26, 2011 Author Posted May 26, 2011 Yep, done that. The indian lady was very nice but no help at all. She gave me a number to call but I'm b******d if I'm paying premium rate to call it.............. Chaz. Quote
Westford Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 assuming you've now got windows 7 on there, right click my computer, system properties, "change product key" at the bottom. This is the answer to your question Westford Quote
chazpowerslide Posted May 26, 2011 Author Posted May 26, 2011 No Westford, I don't have 7 on the computer yet. It's still got Vista on it. Do I download it from somewhere, on the microsoft site it's pay before download but I've already paid £54.99 Chaz. Quote
Rep-robate Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Do you not even get to put the "upgrade key" in anywhere? Quote
SparkyB Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 If you go to start menu - control panel there is a Windows Update anytime icon....at least it is there on windows 7. When I click it it gives an option to enter product key. Quote
Westford Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 On the Windows anytime upgrade page how many options does it give you? I've just had a look on an old laptop of mine running Vista and it doesn't even give me an option to upgrade just compare the editions of Windows Vista Westford Quote
