slater Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 As I have just saved a fair amount on my insurance by going to Frank Pickles, thought I would treat myself to a new steering wheel, what size and what make would you recommend? lewis Quote

Dibby Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 While on the topic ... Trying to get hold of a removable steering wheel for a while, security of these cars isn't the best if you go for a day out and have to leave it. On the last car (a Robin Hood 2B) we had a Mountney removable and lockable adaptor between the flange mounted on the spline and the wheel itself. Can't seem to find anything like that for the Westie, moving the wheel back 2-3" would fit me perfect and let my shoulders sit nicely on the back of the seat without my knees either side of the wheel. Is there an adaptor out there or a removable spline kit? Quote
Captain Colonial Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Momo leather 280mm - love mine, just need my car back now... Quote

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Suede Momo in the 280 mm dia version, couldn't get on with anything smaller, they just "felt" wrong. (And hid more of the Dash2) Quote
Captain Colonial Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Daft as it sounds, I chose the wheel I wanted online, then printed a photo of it in 1:1 scale, pasted it on cardboard and cut out the gaps where the openings were. I then took it out to the car and sat in it while holding the "wheel" in place to get the effect, and make sure I could see all the dials, etc. Worked a treat and confirmed 260mm was too small for me. Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 One little point I was told when I bought the wheel; if you're wearing gloves, stick with leather palms on a leather trimmed wheel and suede faced palms on a suede wheel. Quote

SWMBO thinks I am mad now , god knows what she would say if I was sitting in the car with a cardboard steering wheel. (but not a bad idea ) lewis Quote
adam1330 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I use a Racetech 265mm wheel, which I really like. I did have a suede one, which was really nice, but they do go a bit manky after a while if you don't drive with gloves, so I have now got a leather version. Quote
