AdamR Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hi gents, Should be picking up my new toy in a couple of weekends - exciting! I've been out in it with a full screen (and side deflectors) and it was lovely for cruising around, however I have a feeling I'd want to wear a helmet all the time 'just in case'... I also intend to use the car on the track a fair amount. That's brought me round to the thinking that I could possibly enjoy an aero screen. Had a search and found a few topics, mainly this one: Aero Vs Normal Screen - all the 'benefits' appeal to me, so seems that it could be worth a try at least! I will probably knock something up myself (unless I can find a 2nd hand one very cheap), however I've seen two distinct types: Clearly the low level one will be easier to make tooling for, but does anyone have any comments regarding the effectiveness of each, in direct comparison? I understand that my seating position and height etc. will affect things. Many thanks in advance for any contributions! Adam Quote
ibbo Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 ihave a double bubble one and love it like you said when i had a full screen the car was great for cruising but for blatting i allways felt as though the car was hitting a brick wall when you tried getting up past 100 mph such was the wind resistance Quote
nikpro Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 It's really down to personal prefference on looks! I hate the double bubble type and makes the driver and passenger look like a pair of t**s in a bra! (.....and if you've seen my face that is one ugly t*t that you wouldn't want to suck on!) The low level looks much more classy especially when fitted to a car with a full cage - all IMO Quote
Guest Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 i'll post a picture for Frazier in a moment .... i'll let him find his tissues first . i have had both , and surprisingly i found the non bubble type deflected wind better and caused less turbulance in the cockpit than the westy double bubble . also the straight ones look better imho ready frazier .......................... AdamR Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 That's exactly what I was after, thanks harv! Your car looks absolutely stunning by the way, all that carbon is mesmerising... I too think the low level look much better, but if they were next to useless I'd probably have gone for the bubble type. Looks like I can have my cake and eat it for once! Thanks again. Quote
Guest Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 its not my car anymore ....long gone i am afraid adam ...... but the pics still linger;) Quote
JulianE Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hi Adam, I have had both and from personal experience on my car I can tell you that the double bubble gives better wind deflection at higher speeds than the constant lip type ,above 80 mph starts to make a real difference between the two types . Harv's car appears to have a higher constant lip type (looks to be a fluke one £250 ish I think if I recall correctly) than the one I have supplied to Stephen on his mk which would make a difference to deflection. You could easily knock something up yourself if you require any help I would be more than pleased to help. Regards Julian Quote
Onliest Smeg David Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Can't believe you upgrading before you've even got your westie! Oh! Hang on... I've already been looking at costs of carbon seats & zetec cams/ arp bolts etc! This westie upgraditis virus is worse than Anthrax! Lol Quote
smorse Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 the WF aeroscreen is so good that my sunglasses stay on at 100mph without any probs, probably got something to do with me being vertically challenged tho Quote
AdamR Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 Julian - thanks for your input also. Slight spanner in the works! It seems that it may be more to do with the design of the screen rather than the style? I did notice that harv's one seems to be a fair bit taller and finish at a steeper angle than the one I liked to in my original post. Thank you for your kind offer of some assistance, I may well take you up on that and ask for some feedback on a design if you don't mind! David - Haha, I know, terrible isn't it!? Upgradeitis... smorse - Haha, I'm pretty short too, but at the moment the seats are the 'sports' model and on rails so sit relatively high. I'll have to have a good look at the current screen mountings and see if I can 'bodge' something into them to test angle/height, then go from there. If anyone is interested in what comes of it I'm happy to put photos/info up when I've had a play... Cheers! Quote
8pots Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Mine has a double bubble type screen but is 2 piece. Got it from Westfield years ago. I get quite a bit of buffeting but I am quite tall. If I use it alot on track it makes me feel a bit light headed to be honest. Not entirely sure why. May be bad fitting helmet, height issue, not sure. Adam, I will take you out in mine at Blyton and you can decide better then. Quote
stephenh Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 If you want to compete in the car in the Speed Series, road going class, just make sure the low level aeroscreen is deep enough to comply with the Speed Series regulations for class E and F. Quote
AdamR Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 Thanks for the extra info guys. I'll defo take you up on that offer if I'm there Mike, cheers! Quote
