Darrell O'Neill Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Simple question.. Upgrading my phone from blackberry bold, been offered a Torch from orange with 500mins, unlimited txts and 500mb data for £19.69 a month, which seems a good deal. Anyone got one? Quote
Guest Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Like a car ,a phone if it is good or not is very subjective . a phone or car is only as good, or better based on the one YOU have experience of , and it depends on what your use is compared to others . if you just use it for calls and texting then the best phone ever is a basic nokia with weeks of battery life . smartphones now have so many features that you need to use it for a few weeks to know if you like it . now here is a tip , do an upgrade over the phone , this way you can use it for a week or so and then send it back if its not to your liking . if you buy in a shop , there are no distance selling rules and your stuck with it . peterg Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 some experiences over on BC personally I hate a touchscreen phone so prefer the Bold... having said that you could always upgrade and if you don't like it put the sim back into the Bold and sell the Torch on eBay Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Ness and Alex both have Blackberrys and cant wait for the contract to expire to change them mate. Quote

HTC Desire S has me converted, very intuitive, and simple to use, but with lots of functionality if you need it. Only criticism so far is battery life isn't hoooge when used with bluetooth. I solved that by turning off bluetooth outside the car.... Number 3 Daughter Has a Blackberry Torch, but she's not particularly enamoured with it .....Then again she changes phones more often than I change undercrackers.... Quote
Norman Verona Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I think they are all out of date. My new Motorola Atrix arrives tomorrow. With the lap dock I will have a laptop and a phone which will manage all my internet browsing, my emails, my texts, my phone calls, my diary, my... well you get the picture. This is what I've been waiting for a computer that's also a phone. but they do a far better explanation than I can (if you can cope with the drawl - sorry Capt'n) Quote

Dibby Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 That's the joy of an Android phone, you won't lose your phone data, there's not a lot stored on the phone, your contacts, emails, calendars, backups, files (if you use Dropbox) are all stored in the interwebosphere and can be restored by signing in to your account. Personally I think Blackberries have missed the boat and are out of date. Good for business email but IMO iPhone/ Android are the mobile market leaders. iPhones for kids and fun, Android for everyone else. There's a massive range of custom operating systems out there for geeks to tweek the battery life by underclocking when the screen is off. Hugely customisable. HTC Desire HD here, work and personal emails, contacts and calendars sync over the air, satnav, mobile office, easy to use touchscreen interface, I find the buttons on Blackberries and pervious HTC TYTN II too small and slow to use. Like others have said. It's your phone, your money and your choice. Don't let anyone else make your mind up, if you really want a Blackberry (and heaven knows why) you buy a Blackberry Quote
Ian Podmore Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 HTC Desire here. Great phones, loads of free apps, Sat Nav included. Battery lasts fine if you don't leave wifi, BT etc on all the time. Just set the widgets onto the screen to make turning them on and off very easy. It must be good as I'm not all inclined to upgrade after 1 year's use. Quote
Dibby Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 To extend battery life, have a look for an app called Tasker which runs instructions based on events, like at bedtime you can shut everything off and wake when you wake up. It's a couple of quid on the market ... but all apps are free if you know where to look Quote
Pew Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 The tourch is much heavier that the Bold 9700 etc. I have a work mate who has just upgraded loves the ouch screen but regreating the move due to increased weight. Quote

Darrell O'Neill Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Can of worms opened then.... i love my blackberry thats why i was going to stick with it, but the problem is I dont know enough about the HTC/Android market to make a decision. In short, what can the HTC do better than the blackberry? Quote
