Transporting car from Bristol to Oldham

Get the old yellow pages out and get ringing, ask them for a low loader car trailer, hire fleet trailers will be bigger than you need as they have to accomadate all sizes. The best are the ones where the trailer lifts at the front on hydraulics so you do not need a set of ramps. Most reputable firms will hire straps but good old rope tied at the rear then winched tight and tied again at the front works well enough. I pay £45 per day all in for one in Bristol which is as described. If you have never towed before be aware that the numpties on the road never see the trailer until they have nearly hit it and will never allow you enough room at junctions etc.If I am about when you pick it up I will give you a hand willingly to load and rope.

We started off with this idea. The difficulty seems to be with finding trailers with outboard wheels. One local company has such trailer, however it is booked out for the next 2 weeks.

sorry if this might sound like a daft question but why is 16' too long for a trailer ?

:t-up: Nice one Neil, sound like you've got yourself a good buy there, better book your SVA spot as soon as (if the cars ready/nearly ready), somrtimes 6-8 weeks waiting.

I failed to mention to Neil when he phoned earlier that the trailer I hired from LCF (0161 6249499) came complete with the proper sraps to wrap around your wheels and fasten to the trailer (these were asked for in addition but didn't add any charge). I think the price was about £28.00 all in.

The trailer was a multi-purpose type, 14ft long and had to have the front end raised by the jockey wheel to better the ramp to trailer angle so as not to bottom out at the top of the ramps/tail end of trailer. Other than this no problems, good price and very flexible pick up/drop off times.

Hope this helps

If you are still looking to hire a trailer there is a company near me that has a few

TH Motors, Blackburn 01254 675522

Never used them, but they seem to know what's what

Cheers
