Help identifying my handbrake cable

Oh wise all knowing members of the WSCC, can somebody please help identify the handbrake cable on my project car so I can buy a new one.

It's a live axle SE circa 1990 with an escort axle, single handbrake cable going to the nearside drum with a solid metal compensator arm mounted to the axle tube and going to the offside drum.

Would it be Escort Mk1, Mk2 or something silly like Allegro? :durr:

You lot are terrible, worse than useless.  The poor man is asking for help, and all you can do is be smart  :arse: s

I apologise for them Smokey - rotters.

Now then, your hand brake cable - as the photo clearly indicates, you put the old one on the special magnetic wall-mounted tiles you bought.  This means the cable is clearly made, at least partly, of metal.

Hope that helps,

Scott

My SEi has a similar cable that came from an Allegro.  No guarantees though.  Google Image Search is your friend...

Ah thanks chaps, you've all been a great help so far :D:D:D:bangshead::p

pretty sure it's not allegro or the same as would be on an SEI as it's only a single cable set-up with a steel rod mounted to the axle opperating one of the drums.

I've tried a good search for a similar arrangement and come up with a blank so far.  Any ideas?

Looks the same as mine - I think Escort and Marina cables might be possibles , but probably have to be shortened to fit. (try Speedy cables).

In fact if you called speedy cables they might  make a new one using your old one as a pattern

OR...

Ebay is worth a look as you can often look at the images and take a punt on what looks right. Given it has to be shortened anyway if you get it slightly wrong the fiftings at the ends can be swapped across.

Actually... I can't remember if the old handbrake cables were actually bespoke. For a new one and a spare, I'd be talking to Speedy Cables. Google 'em...

I'm starting to think it may be a cut down escort one.  There's a couple on ebay that look similar but the cable on them looks to be longer at the handbrake end.

Forgot to add that if it helps any they're 9" drums.

Have you tried a local motor factor/spares shop? taking your old cable as a pattern to see if they can match it up.

No doubt about it. Mk1 Escort, but you'll have to get a new one shortened. They all had to be modified. The Mk 2 Escort has a cable going to both back wheels.
