peterg Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 For all those of us who have been known to forget when the MOT is due... clicky Quote
Dibby Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Hmmm, sceptical. What's wrong with a calendar? If you haven't got a calendar they send you a reminder in the post Quote
dave_t Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 This could be really helpful ... but it doesn't look like the most user-friendly of services, as it appears that you need to re-register each and every year, at a cost of £1.50 (And it's the re-registering that will be a pain, not necessarily the £1.50!) peterg Posted May 5, 2011 Author Posted May 5, 2011 QUOTE they send you a reminder in the post er no they don't, that's for the Road Fund Licence (aka road tax) for the MOT all you get is a small sticker that you could put on your windscreen but I don't want yet more clutter there so this can be useful especially if you have a few vehicles all of which exopire at different times of the year Quote
Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 What a rip off..... so every year you have to pay £1.50!!!!! Get stuffed, Just set up a reminder on your phone that reminds very year for free Quote
Captain Colonial Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 they send you a reminder in the post er no they don't, that's for the Road Fund Licence (aka road tax) for the MOT all you get is a small sticker that you could put on your windscreen but I don't want yet more clutter there so this can be useful especially if you have a few vehicles all of which exopire at different times of the year Yep, I was bemoaning this a few weeks ago after accidentally overlooking it on my tintop and driving around without an MOT for, shall we say, "some time" - as in months. God knows how I didn't get nicked for it, even if it was purely unintentional. Now have reminders on physical and electronic calendars. Yes, good idea, but £1.50 per car per year is a bit steep, methinks... Quote
matt_c Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 I get a letter (even though they are less that 1/4 mile away from my house) or a phone call from the garage owner when my MOTs are due. There is no way I'd pay for a reminder from the government, if I never got a reminder (for free) from my local garage then I'd use a reminder of my own (mobile phone is one example (as indicated above)) Quote
Dibby Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 they send you a reminder in the post er no they don't, that's for the Road Fund Licence (aka road tax) Ah yes, that'll be it. Still, nowt wrong with a Westfield calendar on the wall with dates for her car, mine and the Westie: MOT, car tax, services, insurance renewal, plus the all important anniversary, family birthdays... Write them all on in January and no excuse for forgetting anything. Also backed up by the electronic calendar in Outlook at work that syncs with the phone along with the dates of the F1 and MotoGP races Quote
Norman Verona Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 In France the mot (Controle Technique) is every 2 years. You get a little square sticker on the screen with the month and year hole punched when it's next due. This isn't a reminder it's to show you have a valid CT You also have a small green card which is displayed in the windscreen to show you're insured. Both are about the size of 50 pence pieces. The local testing station send out the reminders. Our Dealer system will send the dealers customers service and MOT reminders by letter, text or email, whichever the customer prefers. So as long as you use one of our customers for your servicing and MOT you'll be OK Quote
