Paul M Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Have to agree it will be terrible, the last thing we need is F1 controlled by a meglomaniac billionaire....................... oh wait a sec ................. it already is. Just a multi national billion dollar making exercise for whoever controls it . Whoever it is is never going to make it the great sport it once was. Sadly those days are long gone. Quote
Dibby Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Think it's a lot of fuss over nothing QUOTE "There can be no certainty that this will lead to an approach to F1's current owners." F1's owner CVC Capital Partners insists the sport is not "for sale". Still, would it be all that bad? Bernie's travelling circus of Playstation drivers artificially generating overtaking manouvres is hardly the sport it used to be Quote

Blatman Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Dissapointing if this does go ahead One massive corporate is seeking to take over from another. Of itself that is not really a problem. The problem is that News Corp will no doubt try to make F1 a pay per view event or a subscription channel event, rather than the current clause that states that F1 should be free-to-air where possible. It's that last bit we as armchair fans should be concerned about, along with the current "deal" for free-to-air ending in 2012 and the Beeb contract ending in 2013. It does not bode well for watching F1 for free after 2013 if News Corp buy out F1. I don't subscribe to Sky Sport and I wouldn't do so just to watch F1... Quote
echoz Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 why is it that as the years go by we have to pay for more and more things i remmeber when channel 4 aired the cricket those were the days Quote
RobC Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 nail on head blatters... Would def: kill it off. I know the little fella's got some crazy ideas but pay per view would be the way it would go and the viewing figures with fall off rapidly IMO Quote
Dibby Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 There's always ways round PPV with the internet They can try and make it PPV but the public will put up some stiff opposition streaming it for free Quote
Guest Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I suspect alternative championships would develop. All said and done, Bernie is at least a racer at heart. Quote
Kevin Jones Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Think its just pre-Concorde positioning, as the article says EXOR are linked to Ferrari. While the numbers I think make PPV an option, going that way would certainly not be in the interests of the teams as they will lose financial control as sponsorship money falls off. I assume what they (Ferrari) want is more say and a bigger slice of the existing TV money to be feed back. Quote
Blatman Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 QUOTE I think make PPV an option, going that way would certainly not be in the interests of the teams as they will lose financial control as sponsorship money falls off. PPV / subscription channel "ownership" worked pretty well for the premier league, and F1 is at least as popular as soccer on the global stage. I doubt going PPV / subscription would be the death of F1, but those of us who would not pay for it would be denied our two hours every Sunday. But that's what Motors TV / Eurosport is for Quote
