and I would say 90% of driving on track/roads would be up to 90mph between corners ok on the main straights like you say the higher bhp will soon catch up... but then under braking, cornering and acceleration bye bye

If youre going to hang up your sti boots which had 350-400hp, then I think you need to be going for a bit more power...

200hp upwards will give you something still very road worthy but also something great for the odd track day. Think that after having the sti 170hp may be a little too little-

Whats your budget? If its healthy then duratec (for car engined cars) or hayabusa (bike engined cars) will be by the most recommended. Not quite so much $$$ then redtops/zetecs will get you 200hp easily and fairly cheaply.

This post is from a person who has been obsessed with Power output since he first visited the boardroom in january this year!

I'm not even sure if he owns a Westfiedld but would take his advice with a 'pinch of Salt' in relation to what is required with Power Outputs as he appears to think anything under 200 bhp isn't worth having.

You can have endless fun on a trackday in a 116bhp MX5 so the advice of Sparky21 & Cleggy is far more accurate - anything above 130bhp in a Westfield is a very quick car! (Unless your just interested in straight lines!)

Ive always fancied a go in a decent scoob or an evo, not sure if would own one, but hey never say never, but sureley even 400bhp in a 1300kg car compared to a lets say 180bhp in a 500kg car is no comparison or am I wrong?

with those figures, that would give the Westy a power to weight ration of 360bhp/ton against the Subarus 307bhp/ton. The Westy would leave the Jap for dead on a twisty track or out in the real world at legal-ish speeds..

You are 100% spot on.....bye bye indeed!

On track and on lengthy straights I am able to reel in and maybe overtake where top-end speed gives me an advantage, but it's somewhat pointless because as soon as I got in to anything remotely twisty, (i.e in the real world), my mirrors are immediately full of Westy, (or similar), before I can blink! And the way the can carry their speed while remaining so well balanced is what brought me to this forum in the first place!  ;)

Whilst I fully appreciate power-to-weight ratio, I couldn't really understand why the Westfield was so much better compared to my very well-sorted Impreza, until I went out in an extremely well-sorted, 200bhp plus SEIW yesterday afternoon, as a passenger! The difference in handling is night and day....at least in the dry!

Holy Moley.....the grin has been permanently etched on my face ever since!

Loved it so much I had a mad moment and bought the car.....  :)

Watch this space!

My missus has always told me that if I mention something I like more than once, then it won't be long until I own it! :D  She knows me very well!

Anyway, have been scanning Pistonheads for a while now and enquired about a few cars but often been too late or something hasn't ticked my boxes or felt quite right.

Then saw a new ad late last Thursday night and it seemingly ticked every box. Quite a bit more than I wanted to spend but the car didn't seem to want for anything and was built and set up to a spec that really appealed to me. And subsequently spending on upgrades, to get the car to where I wanted to, is something I wished to avoid, (for as long as possible  ;) ) as that's exactly where I am with the Scooby right now.

Anyway, made contact with the owner and headed up to Bristol from Southampton, (Bank Holiday traffic and all), to see what all the fuss was about.

Anyway, met Dave and spent over two hours with him showing me every detail of his obvious pride and joy, going through his 3" thick A4 lever arch, full of build documentation, receipts, dyno stats and pics and then went for a good 40 minute blast under a blazing sun and blue skies (open top heaven!).

To say I was blown away was an understatement and I was immediately sold!

Any hoo, here's the link to the car, (apologies if it's no longer up on PH), which I hope to pick up next week!

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2756831.htm

Hope it meets with your approval!

So I'll be a fully paid-up member of WSCC soon and no doubt asking for plenty of advice and information.  Have also already made contact with my local club and hope to meet up with some fellow Westy owners soon, who I hope will be gentle with me!

Thanks.

She did seem immaculate in every respect and the seller's attention to detail was incredible and the car was a total credit to him.  Who knows, I may well have paid over the odds but as I said earlier, every box was ticked.

The seller was even the same height, weight and build as me, so the seat, steering and pedal position all felt just perfect!

I'm a little apprehensive to be honest as the car is very different to what I'm used to, based on my saloon car experience and it's been a long, long time since I've been that low to the ground! So I'll be learning slowly and getting used to everything before I head to the track, where I can really explore things!  :)

you gota think at the end of the day its gona be cheaper buying it spec'ed up rather than buying a more standard car and doing it all yourself as i'm sure you know already,  like you say a few "gentle" :p  stroll's out and you'll be well away, I'm not that far up the coast from you if your Southampton, I just up near Lewes way......

You sure you guys dont want to change his mind for a 116bhp mx5??

Seven type cars will always outhandle normal roadgoing cars, everyone knows that.. Doesnt mean that everyone should be happy with slower straight line speed just because its quicker round the corners.

The guy's used to a performance car, come on.

Mate I think by the looks of it youve got a cracker there- Very jealous!  :t-up:

well looks like he has certainly got the straight line speed as well now :p  :p
