What Trailer for XTR2

Towball weight should be circa 60-80kgs depending on the towcar - the correct figure will be listed in the owners manual, eg my for old Passat estate it was 75kgs

If the XTR is loaded on backwards then you should be able to adjust this weight by moving the car further back although for this you'd really need a 14ft bed...

I used to tow my single seater (which had a big rear wing as well) facing forwards and didn't get any stability problems even well over XX leptons  ;)  however, it did only weigh 340kgs and was rather slimmer than the XTR  :p

Hello,

i have had my XTR2 on differents trailers ( rental trailers, friends trailers or mine), and as long as you have long ramps or may be some wooden board to help lifting the front it is not a problem to get it on the trailer.

I always do load it with the nose to the front of the trailer .

I got my trailer custom made and can store the ramps at the front or at the rear to give more weight balance options depending on whether I have the tyre rack on and how many sets I'm carrying etc.

Definitely need to allow for the wing to start working at motorway speeds :)

lol.... I quite often come down that way, normally with a couple of under cover rozzers in tow :bangshead:  :bangshead: ,

Thank for the offer with the trailer, when I get the car back would be great if you didnt mind to try it... atleast I will know before I go to look at one :D

I tow the XTR2 with a Brian James Clubman.

It works a treat and is very stable.

I drive on forwards up long ramps (2m?) until I nudge the front then drop back about an inch before strapping the car.

It has about an inch of space on each side so it involves stopping every few feet to check alignment! (unless a mate is handy) NB I've pondered fitting a little mirror in the top o/s corner to help..#

NB be wary of looking at the trailer spec and going too snug on width as there are bolt heads sticking out and loading would be a pain.

To stop the car moving sideways a little on bumpy corners, I've made up a couple of pieces of wood that I place on the outside of the rear wheels.. And they each have a bungy cord secured to them with a U nail..

If you have another set of wheels on the rack and full jerry cans in the storage box then you can drop the XTR back a foot or so (there is about 2 feet before falling off the back!)

To secure it I feed a 2 inch strap from the back, through the 2 rear wheels and back to the rear of the trailer..

To stop it falling off the back I hook the trailer's winching strap up to a strap round the roll hoop..

Sometimes I also use this to winch the car on.

No probs with the car grounding out - I raise the nose of the trailer before loading..

I've not found the wing to be a problem (even at 80 on the Autobahns near the Ring!) Though I tend to swing it round into a flat position to save fuel! (takes just 2 mins with a 10mm ratchet)

The Clubman (with all the optional extras) cost £1400 (nearly new).. But it's a great bit of kit..
