A quick hello and introduction ...

I'm in South Wales, Bridgend way in a Westfield SEIW with a CBR Honda Fireblade engine. Graduated from a Robin Hood based on old Sierra parts to a Westie, she's back on the road for the summer and took her out for the first drive last night.

The car is a half-share between me and my parents in Bristol, we are all members of the WSCC but finding it hard to find a contact for the South Wales meets, maybe the south Wale-ians are more active in the forums than through the club magazine? We'll be looking to do a track day or 2 at Llandow and meet up on a few club meets (if there are any round here).

Cheers Steve, the contact for South Wales has been up since last year and we had no joy getting in contact with the S. Wales rep last year or this year ... wondering if there is a South Wales section at all!

Hi Dibby and welcome. My mate is in the process of building a Fireblade Indy, so it would be good to compare the two. Get some pics up!

I tried to get on on the avatar but doesn't seem to be working.

We bought it from a friend of the family and legend has it, built by an ex-McLaren engineer (cars, not prams!) with handfulls of F1 electrical fittings.

If you want any specific pictures of anything for the build, let me know. One problem we did find was the angle of the dangle where the driveshaft comes out of the back of the 'box heats up and eats sealed CV joints, so if you get get some more robust UJs in there instead it might be a good idea. But then the layout might be different on the Indy.

I'd say a Fireblade engine is nice but if he afford it, a Hyabussa engine might be better suited with a stronger clutch. Never gunned the car straight off the line because I'm afraid of smoking the Fireblade clutch but put your foot down and that engine is lethal!

Welcome to the boardroom,

We don't have an active area in South Wales as such yet, I'm afraid.  I am the ao in the area, but purely as a point of contact for new members - we don't have anyone else willing to take up the post just yet.  With a young family I struggle to do the bare minimum and don't rely do the role of club justice.  That said, there is no one else wanting to take over so at the moment it is better than nothing.

It would be great if we could find an enthusiastic volunteer to take on the role, as we have quite a few members in the area who would take part.

So welcome aboard, drop me a pm with your e-mail and I can add you onto the contact list.  That way if anything is planned we can keep you in the loop

Thanks,

Mat

Hi Mat,

Thanks for the reply, tried emailing you on the contact details in the WSCC magazine and it bounced back as email not recognised.

I can't get the contact button to work on the forum to PM you my email, it comes up with an error:

You are not allowed to use this part of the board

So ... my email is dibblington@gmail.com if you could add me to the list it would be good to get out and about with some fellow Westies in the area, have a nose around other people's cars for ideas and tips and get on a trackday or 2 this year. Can't guarantee making all of the meets as the car is a half share with my parents and sometimes we have to let them have a go in it!

I'll let my mate know about driveshaft/gearbox joint  ;)  The fireblade was a beast of an engine in a bike and I don't think it's lost any of its tenacity being fitted to a Seven. The throttle response is an animal .. it's either off or ON!

Oh Jeez, I'd hate to see what that engine is capable of on half the wheels and half the weight. It's lethal enough in car! Coming from a Robin Hood with a 2-litre EFI from an old Sierra, before I'd handed over the cheque on the test-drive I put my foot down in a roundabout and came out of it backwards.

Note to self: Bike engines are a lot more responsive than 20 year old car engines, don't just plant your foot in the middle of a bend!

It's alright aroun town, you just have to be very, very gentle on the throttle or it'll kangaroo and buck around below 4,000rpm.

Good luck to your mate, it's a nice engine when you get the hang of it!

Hi Dibby, I have sold my Westy and jumped ship to another brand of seven. Couple of my mates have also sold their cars, but we do get together now and again for a pub meal and a pint.

You just missed a superb trackday run be Brian Jones at Pembrey., which is our annual trackday for South Wales.

If I get any news of a get together or trackdays I will drop you a line.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks Jeremy, getting out for a blat and a pint with any kit car enthusiasts would be a bonus.

Shame I missed Pembrey, I've got the feeling it's got a lot more to give on a track where I can afford to lose it a couple of times to find the limits. Losing it on the road has a far greater risk of totalling the car and someone else's.
