Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 just paid 50 odd quid to have our smeg oven cleaned now when you turn the oven on it just keeps building heat and does not settle at the required level resulting in burnt food - eventually the oven gets so hot it just turns itself off now I am quite used to this with Julies cooking but clearly there is a fault with the thermostat I have tried turing the oven off at the wall - any ideas? apart fro call an engineer out Quote
SteveD Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 call smeglington we had the same problem ,it was only a few quid Quote

RedditchJay Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Perhaps Mothers day is the only time Cleggy uses the oven Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 pfft the oven has been used to force dry various bits of car Quote
Darrell O'Neill Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Not that familiar with smeg, but have see this happen to other blands. Have seen thermostats and thermostatic controls play up after cleaning due to damp, crap etc, etc building up on them. Single/double oven? Rotary controls or digital? My suggestion would be find the thermostats, etc and make sure they are clean. Failing that, call a 'one-man band' engineer, costs will be lower than the corporates etc. Quote
Delboy Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Pretty sure the thermostat will be a capillary type with a metal 'bulb' tube in one of the sides of the oven. I'm afraid the cleaner has probably kinked the capillary when cleaning it. It will be non repairable but relatively cheap to repair. Try espares on line they have photos of parts so should be easily identified Del Quote
housebeautician Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 now I am quite used to this with Julies cooking Are you on a deathwish Quote
rustie Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Wot Del says. Most ovens are dead easy to repair. Much easier than building or upgrading a Westy ! Mind you our Smeg Fridge/Freezer broke under warranty and it took Smeg UK six weeks to get anew compressor from Italy...... Quote
Tubs Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Well if you take the smeg out of the smeg how can it work? Tubs Quote
