thos Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Anyone heard about this? http://www.flickr.com/photos....1060940 Looks to be in a carrier - for the same Sierra fitment? Quote
peterg Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Yeah, loads of discussion over on Blatchat such as: QUOTE the BMW lsd has titan internals in a BMW casing. The theory is that the BMW casing is cast iron rather than ally on the ford 7". The ally case of the ford heats up and changes all the tollerances. Thats why your ally ford diff is normally very quiet untill it warms up after a bout 10 minutes or so.... The BMW diff comes with a weight penalty. Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Looks like a very sensible option to me with sierra diffs getting harder to find Quote
SteveD Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 there are better options out there ,but ! diffs will get harder and harder to source anyway as more and more cars are becoming fwd so there will be less and less suitable diffs to choose from, and sirra diffs are yonks old so buying one secondahand will probably need a rebuild anyway Quote
stephenh Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I understand that Westfield use Mazda (MX5) 'boxes and diffs in the vauxhall turbo engined cars. Quote
nikpro Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I understand that Westfield use Mazda (MX5) 'boxes and diffs in the vauxhall turbo engined cars. Interesting. Unfortunately the Mk3 MX5 gearbox is troublesome and has a weak selector fork between 3rd/4th gear: Quote
Hammy Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I believe you can get a BMW diff upgrade for Triumph Stags/TR6's or something too Quote
SteveD Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I believe you can get a BMW diff upgrade for Triumph Stags/TR6's or something too chuffin el wuv a horse and cart diff would be an upgrade for a triumph stag Quote
Dave Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 My Scooby diff into an 91 sei worked really well 4:1 and plated LSD for £45 from fleebay, or you can get a brand new one for about 150 Dave Quote
