Yeah, loads of discussion over on Blatchat  ;)  such as:

The theory is that the BMW casing is cast iron rather than ally on the ford 7". The ally case of the ford heats up and changes all the tollerances. Thats why your ally ford diff is normally very quiet untill it warms up after a bout 10 minutes or so....

Looks like a very sensible option to me with sierra diffs getting harder to find

there are better options out there ,but ! diffs will get harder and harder to source anyway as more and more cars are becoming fwd so there will be less and less suitable diffs to choose from,and sirra diffs are yonks old so buying one secondahand will probably need a rebuild anyway

Interesting.

Unfortunately the Mk3 MX5 gearbox is troublesome and has a weak selector fork between 3rd/4th gear:

chuffin el wuv a horse and cart diff would be an upgrade for a triumph stag

My Scooby diff into an 91 sei worked really well

4:1 and plated LSD for £45 from fleebay, or you can get a brand new one for about 150 :D

I've seen a Scooby diff done alright - some good ratios I belive!
