clicky

Same group as Dolphin bathrooms... bargepoles usually mentioned in the same sentence as both companies in my recollection though I've not used either  ;)

Try and find a local company so you can bang on their door if you have a problem with anything  :t-up:

I use Magnet - Use the Trade facility ( they will set you  up with an account), did very good job at a sensible price.

Hi Mike a mate of mine has a factory in Bishop making kitchens bedroom furniture etc ,they have all the top computerised equipment,  top quality and can be sensible on price  ;)  , they did mine in my house about 12 years ago and its still like new, solid carcasses with solid backs  :t-up: if you want putting in contact just let me know  :t-up:

saying that Ive had a couple of cheap kitchens from howdens fitted in my rentals by by cousin who is a pro fitter and they look spot on and are holding up really well   :t-up:  :t-up:

For a less expensive option, I second Howdens.

They're not the same quality as a top end kitchen, but solid and very good value. IMO

I know someone who puts faults right in Moben kitchens. Or at least he did until they got seriously stingey about paying him.

Suffice to say the 'bargepole' comment above should be heeded. Also Jeff's advice is good. IMHO and that of my above mentioned acquaintance, the same or better quality can be had at much cheaper prices from a wide range of other suppliers.

What I do is go to local kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom fitters, usually one man bands, tell them what I want, check some references, compare prices and pick one. Works out much, much cheaper......... but I usually end up with the brother in law .

I hope this helps but I have my doubts....

the good news is i have managed to convince mrs oi that moben is not the way to go.

now need to find someone who is going to do a proper job.  got shafted by a one man band on a bathroom some years ago

for your mild amusement http://boardroom.wscc.co.uk/cgi-bin....nd+oioi

why is it not possible to get a proper job done?  im happy to pay a premium to ensure that someone turns up on time, delivers the quality we agree, and carries out the work in the timescale we agree.

I will second what rustie says, use the one man band route and check out references, I fit kitchens as my primary job, and because of very low overheads etc etc, I can usually beat most people on price, I like to say a marks & spencer kitchen at Aldi prices is what I can offer, and most important is communication with the customer.......

Howdens are the old MFI but the commercial arm

Avoid Magnet, in a cupboard I had wore through the veneer in 6 months

Howdens carcasess and doors are good but their accsessories are of a pretty pood quality, plastic taps and knobs on hobs are two things that spring to mind. If you want decent stuff you have to pay a bit more (but not as much as you`d think). Crown Imperial stuff is very good, if you have a dealer nearby its worth a look. If you can i`d say go to an independant dealer and stay away from the `big boys` as usually their service leaves a lot to be desired.

To be honest I think your asking the question on the wrong forum with an attitude like that

OiOi, sorry to see on your link that you feel you need to shout at your tradesman and that you feel the need to waste their time.

Whilst i understand your frustration i would like to point out that estimating whilst free to the customer costs the tradesman lots in time and money.

I also dont understand your need to want to shout at them either, it does not resolve any issues you may have and just creates bad feeling between you both.

Personally if you shouted at me i would put my tools away and leave you to it, try getting a tradesman to finish a job half done.

As said before in other threads, there are a lot of good guys out there who do a decent job, its just that you have to find them.

Time issues are a problem i agree, but that does not mean the guy should not call and explain, its called courtesy.

In reply to your post i would be inclined to give moben a miss. I fit many Howdens kitchens and can honestly say that they are of a reasonable quality and if fitted properly and looked after they will last for years, but will agree that appliances should be sourced from elsewhere.

One other point to be made is just because a tradesman has lots of work and a long waiting list it might be that he is worth waiting for.

As said by others, try and go for recommendations  and try and look at their work its not that hard.

Happy Hunting

I latched onto a kitchen fitter 7yrs ago..... he did our kitchen and then our bathrooms, everyting from plumbing to tiles {not electrics, he subbed that out}.... top bloke and a fab job..... only any good if your in Worcestershire though..... he is already booked out for most of this year

I've used Magnet kitchens on my house and another self-build I did, decent quality and not daft on the price.  Didn't use their fitting facility though, DIY isn't rocket science for that kind of thing........................

I am planning on Ikea stuff and getting it all fitted by their subbies.

I wouldn't have mentioned this but was speaking to an architect friend who is building a huge extension to be used as a kitchen and he's putting an Ikea kitchen in.

He reckons best value for money, but not the best. Problem is, he reckons, you can spend twice as much and end up with worse quality.
