Ross Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Looking at buying a new van to me and have been looking at the Mercedes vito II 111 cdi long wheelbase. Budget is approxiamately 6k and the van will be used as a daily driver. Are there any issues which i should be looking out for? Having done some research the body work is prone to rust was this particular years or across the the entrie range? What sort of mileage causes problems as within budget there are newer vans with high mileage and older vans with lower mileage. Further to this feedback on reliability and economy would be helpful. I am also open to suggestions of other vans if you have expereince. Thanks in advance. Ross Quote
KerryS Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I'd be interested to see answers to this. We have just agreed purchase of a 115 Compact today for our daughter to replace her VW T5. The one we've gone for is a 10 reg one with about 7k on. Quote
wizzer Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Don't bother there crap , rust buckets cramped passenger side rubbish build quality Quote
KerryS Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Bit late now!! Oddly we went for the Vito as it had the best passenger room for three across and was heavy enough to tow my daughter's caravan unlike the Vauxhall/Renault/Nissan thing. Her VW has been a bundle of trouble lately, drive shaft broke, turbo went. head gasket failed so VW were off the list. Quote
Ross Posted March 22, 2011 Author Posted March 22, 2011 The VW was my second choice . I didn't think build qaulity would be an issue on the vito? Quote
JeffC Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 wheres Jeff C vitos have injector probs and quite a few other issues too,Ian looks after a fleet of merc vans for a bakery and they are in every week getting something or other done, oh and yes rust is a big problem personally I would buy the vw van as a first choice everytime Quote
Ross Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 Thanks Jeff I bet your sick of answering my questions on different vans. Is there any model of transporter that should be avoided is the 2.5 tdi more troublesome than the 1.9tdi ? What sort of mileage causes problems? Thanks Ross Quote

Thanks Ross I will take a look around see what i can find, the 1.9 is pretty much bombproof ive had them in cars with 300k plus, and is prob what i would go for as its a fuel miser Quote
Scottish Bloke Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 My brother has a 10 plate Transporter, 1.9D, he's done 30K in it in six months, drive shaft has failed but apparently that's a common issue, he's pretty happy with it other than that. Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Sorry it's a bit late (I've been away). We have a customer who supplies new vans at huge discounts. If anyone wants an intro (and our intro fee as discount) just shout. (pm may be best) Quote
