McAfee Total Protection here - very happy with it. Agree it's not free but it seems to have little effect on system performance and keeps the system clean. Came with a license for 3 PC's if I recall, which makes it better value if you need multi user.

I used to use Avast but got hit by the System Tool virus, even scanning after being hit it didn't find it. Trying Vipre at the moment.

Avast on all my machines here, and I use it as a tool on Linux to clean off infected Windows partitions when me mates dangler it all up :oops:

Used to use Norton and liked it BUT it needs (needed) tinkering with to stop it hogging resources. It most certainly was NOT plug 'n' play, BUT, neither are any of the others really.

Used McAffee but after an issue and calling "cutomer services"... never again.

Tried AVG but fell victim the the infamous update debacle a year or so ago, so once bitten...

Also the current Windows Security Essentials package is getting good reviews and appears to be a decent product which I will try if Avast lets me down. I currently have it "on test" on a home user desktop and so far (a week or two) so good...
