zvezdochka Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 I've looked evrywhere in the manual and its too late to call the factory. can anyone tell me the if there is a correct sequence for tightening the nuts on the exhaust manifold and what the correct torque is? It's an 1800 zetec with Wstfield 4 into 1 stainless manifold Rick Quote
neo Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Hi ive fitted plenty of these and on my westy and there is no seqence as such but i would say tighten them down even stage at a time till there all tight i did mine to about 30 to 35 ft lbs and there fine. Quote
steppenwolf Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 I have a note in my build manual that I was advised to tighten the 'Binx' nuts to 14lbf ft although in hindsight, that does seem a little low. Although there is no set sequence, I would agree with Neo that it is worth doing them all in stages, starting from the innermost and working outwards. Quote
zvezdochka Posted May 30, 2003 Author Posted May 30, 2003 Thanks, 14 - 30 lbft is quite a range so I'll start at the low end. Rick Quote
neilwillis Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 The manifold mounting flange on mine was banana shaped due to uneven cooling when it was welded up. Once it was fitted, and torqued down, it's pulled itself back into shape. So in my opinion, the tightening of the manifold nuts would hardly cause any problems at all. Mine is completely gas tight and torqued down to 30 ft lbs. Quote
