JeffC Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 any van drivers on here ? I run a New shape sprinter 311cdi and as the race season is starting and the price of fuel is increasing it looks like im going to have to build something that will cost a bit less to run as we have 38 weekends away and some journeys are a good 4 hour drive im getting on average 350 miles on a tank of fuel (70l) we have just come back from a 300 mile trip which cost us £81, worked it out at 22mpg and I was never above 70mph, Ive spoke to other people running new sprinters and my mpg figures are similar to theirs, ive had mine remapped but this hasnt helped other than it is now a lump quicker my pal did the same journey in an old shape sprinter 311cdi and he managed over 30mpg and seems to get an extra 120 miles on a tank so if i change I will need to build a racevan on a big van so looking for mpg info on things like Vw crafter, also heard that the 313cdi mercs are better on fuel same size engine more power or any other lwb van citroen tranny etc failing that i will go back to an old shape sprinter ta in advance Quote
housebeautician Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Jeff I have a transit and it does about the same as your Merc at that speed. If i drive at about 50-55 it goes up to approx 420 miles per tank. (Its not often ) Filling up from approx a quarter full is about 80 ish quid Hope this helps. BTW Thats loaded and 95% motorway. slater Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I run a LWB Vivaro 55 plate and driven sensibly I can get a shade over 500 miles to the tank full, that includes motorway and local driving, not sure on tank size but a fill up from nearly empty costs around £90. lewis Quote
Lurksalot Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Jeff , we run Movanos , a bit long in the tooth now and soon to be replaced , whilst I don't know the actual mpgs from them I am sure we do a lot better than 22 , that is mostly urban and A roads , noit a lot of M/way Quote
RedditchJay Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I have a contact at Northgate, they get 25mpg or thereabouts from their Merc Spinters, the Jumbo Transits are coming in 23mpg Quote

John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Get something petrol and LPG it? It might not improve MPG but the cost per gallon will be less Quote

mark.anson Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Feck. I get about 22mpg from the 130 multijet Ducato 6 berth motorhome. Doesnt make much difference if its fully loaded with the trailer on. Always returns about the same. What sort of MPG would you get out of a Leyland Road runner 7.5 tonner? Might not be as bad as you think. Quote

It's the 316 CDI with the 2.7 ltr 5 cyclinder diesel, which I think was 160 or 170, but as you know chipped and been great since. Just put cruise on it and makes a real difference on long journey's way easier. Quote
