Rab (bombero) Reid Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 What Aidan said I love my JKs. I'm a shortarse at 5'9" and had to fix the driver seat forward a tad, so took the opportunity to make slightly thicker lengthened support brackets copying the original design - no flex. I did have my Westy out for a short run before fitting the new brackets ie seat just bolted to the floor and the flex can be described as a 'twisting' of the upper portion of the seat. Quote
Norman Verona Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I've had a pair of special Tillets for about 10 years now. I'm a very slim 18 stone and yes, they do flex a bit. However they are titted to non-adjustavle runner only (not to the rear bulkhead). I've never been bothered by the small amount of flex which is mainly apparent when getting in or out. They are "special" as they are a pair of kart seats made a bit wider to fit a Caterham. Tillet aren't allowed to sell the Caterham seat direct. You can see them on my web site. ed to add the link to pictures of Tillets finest tillets finest - just scroll down a bit. Quote
stephenh Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I think the JK Composite seats and the Westfield factory race seats are both made of fibreglass. AFAIK the Tillet seats on the other hand are made of carbon fibre. So you aren't really comparing like with like, either in stiffness or cost. Tillet are a lot more than JK because of the difference in material. Personally, I cannot justify in my mind the extra cost of a carbon seat, but if I could then I'd more than likely plump for a Tillet. The look good from what I've seen. However, as I cant, I've got JKs which also look good IMHO. They are all going to flex to some extent, probably carbon least, unless you bolt the back to the rear panel, but of course then you cant have an adjustable seat. Why would you want to have an adjustable driver's seat in this sort of car? Quote
dombanks Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 i have the free standing JK's that have the box on the bottom so they can mount on runners. tbh they do flex but not by a huge amount. its mainly in the shoulder region. i'll stress it again they are the free stadning ones. if they had the mounting bracket they wold be solid. i got used to the flex and dont notice it.
