Mat Jackson Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Planning to change to better seats (currently have STD west seats). Found an in car clip of a car with westfield racing seat and couldn't believe how much they were flexing under hard use. Anyone know if the jk seats are any stiffer? Other option is tillettcarseats, but there about twice the cost Don't want to swap and have a flexible seat Quote
Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 My JK's Flex, but that only because I have secured them to the Back Bulk Head thingy If you bolt them to the back then I cant see JK's flexing at all Quote
Tillett Car Seats Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Mat Assuming your seats aren't on runners and you need to move them back and forth, adding a support to the back of your seat will reduce flex. If you do want any advice on the Tillett seats please fell free to pm me or give me a call. Regards David Quote
Mat Jackson Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 Tom, How much do they flex (I know thats a subjective question?) Also, a favour to ask. Am i right in thinking you have them fitted on runners (picked that up from a previous post)? If so, how far do they sit below the roll bar? David, I plan to mount on runners, so cant fix to the bulk head. Do you see much flex in Tillets if on runners? Thanks, Mat Quote
Tillett Car Seats Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Mat I think you need to check exactly where the most flex is. Is it the seat itself, the mounting brackets or where the brackets mount to the floor? Hopefully it is the latter two as cheap and easy to fix. The Tillett seats and brackets do not flex with just one caveat - the 3.5 is an ultralight seat (1.7kg) and does not come with fixings so rigidity will depend upon how a customer installs. Quote
Mat Jackson Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 Dave, From what I have seen the flex is in the seat itself, and if mounting on runners there is no way to secure this to the bulk head. Thanks for the input, I feel privaliged to have goten your first two posts!! Welcome to the boardroom. Quote
Tillett Car Seats Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Mat Thank you for your welcome I am actually a Westfield owner so have been on here a while ;-) I have a Westfied seat in my car on the passenger side and a Tillett as a drivers seat. I changed to Tillett mainly because I am well built ( fat A***) and could not get comfortable. I am happy to sell you a Tillett seat but if you are comfortable in the Westfield seat then I am sure your could make them less flexible at moderate cost. If you fancy a project, the easiest way is to buy a glass fibre kit and reinforce the seat in a couple of places. Don't just laminate on top at the back because you will need lots of material and add weight. You want to make it have shape and depth. Quote
Mat Jackson Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 Thanks Dave, Do you have a standard Westie seat or a race seat? If it is a race seat how much flex does it have compared to a Tillett? Thanks for the info, and thats my last question honest! Quote

Flex Like you said "subjective question" but I would say about an inch to 2 inches I think JK are now putting in supports down the back of the seat to make them more ridged (if not, ask them and they prob will for you) Yes there on WF Runners and the sit (hold on while I go and measure................) about 6cm under the WF RAC Roll Bar. Was I haven't got the dropped floor in mine Hope this helps Quote
Mat Jackson Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 Thanks Tom, Was that from the underside of the bar or top of it? Pedantic I know, i'm thinking way too much about this! In short, had did you find the switch from westie seats to jk seats, would you recommend them? Quote
pistonbroke Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 You sure its the seats flexing and not the floor Wessy floor aint that stiff , any small movement at base would be amplified higher up Quote

I would recommend JK's, for the money there ace Quote

Mat Not easy to compare because my Westy has non standard Westfield seats that were made for the sport 2000s and they have a back panel that is not present on the normal sports seat. They are damn heavy too, especially with runners. David Quote
AidanPlace Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 My JKs used to flex a little but i changed the two rear ally brackets for one solid one in 5mm. Theres no flex below the shoulder area now. Aidan Quote
