I thought car insurance companies were bad until I started trying to get business insurance :bangshead: I can't believe how cautious they are with taking on a new company

Calm down dear...

Go to moneysavingexpert.co.uk

Follow the instructions for searching the internet for insurance.

Follow the instructions for the cashback websites.

Been doing this for 3 or 4 years now and my premiums go down every year and so far not had to resort to cashback claims. I live in London too...

I leave my ex on my tintop insurance as it oddly saves money.

I'd add my mum, but she's not 63 yet !  :p

its just a joke... to answer all the questions, ive tried all of the comparison sites, money saving experts stuff, and all the ones that dont do these sites (direct line etc)

it seems that on my own its the same company all the time that comes out best ...hastings

its a completely different set that come out for us both.

putting my mum on makes it more but she is over 65...

changing the value of the car or to 3rd party makes no difference. putting the exces up makes it go up....

ive also tried a few brokers... a very nice lady thismorining was shocked at my premium. she put me on hold for ages and when she came back she was actually embarassed to be talking to me, you could hear it in her voice. she's done the usual stuf and had even gone through to someone else. apparently both of them couldnt understand my premiums.. my post code is ok, no points/convictions/accidents. full ncb etc ....she said there is no reason why it should be so high. she also couldnt explain why chosing a high voulantary excess made it more...

maybe you guys are right just leave it as is and then change it later to someone else... i just worry that if i have an accident or someone does me one it will explode in my face.

There aren't any implications of leaving her on it, it doesn't assume she ever drove it, she could be there simply as a 'just in case' she had to drive it at some point.

Common practice, especially with youngsters, you get them their own policy so they can begin to accumulate NCB,  you add yourself as second driver and it comes down 10% , no logic but it works.

Just make sure every question they ask you you answer honestly, even if it is on the phone, they do record calls.

customer of ours lives in a dodgy area in liverpool he is 24 ,he was quoted £4900 to insure his car at his own post code, so he insured it at his brothers post code in winsford and it went down to £1440

i know that feeling steve, when i was 20 i dragged my sierra over to liverpool and had to insure it in L7 i cant remember how much i paid then but i think it went up from 200 odd quid at home to 500 in liverpool. interestingly 2yrs later when i was 23 and got the v6 mundaneo the insurance was not too bad ~800 IRC (about 2001/2 i think)

insurance is getting silly in this country, i dont mind a price increase if its with inflation or it could be justified but like the wonam yesterday said. there is no justifiable reason for it in some cases.

etc but as far as i can see this is going to turn into a self perpatuating fall. the costs are spiraling, poeple will lie a little more, inturn it will make premiums go up and thefore we are back at the beginning. I know loads of people who are just ditching their cars and "getting by"

I seem to be one of the few for whom insurance is cheap as chips. Being an old git at 39 in central Scotland has its compensations it seems. 3 points on the Mrs licence and I'm paying Alfa Gtv £230, Audi A4 Quattro £235,and a quote last night for a brand new Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 Spider amazingly cheap at £738 with Elephant.co.uk   sorry to rub it in to the op :D

As annoying as the adverts are it's worth using confused.com etc. Just put a nonsense phone number in, and correct it if you decide to take one of the quotes. It saves you getting phone calls from money grabbing parasites.

My insurance went up 130 quid but going elsewhere via confused it only went up 30.

:D at this, the 100's of qoutes ive done, i feel sorry for the person who has my phone number but with a 2 at the end instead of a 1 lol

Dom I feel for ya mate, just be thankful ya not paying £1000 on an M reg 1.3 auto nissan micra :bangshead::bangshead:  :bangshead:

Just to check, I've completed a Compare the Market quote.

I used a valid address in South Yorkshire and said I had a VW Golf.

However there was one question that I disn't ask correctly and it was that I had lived in the UK all my life. To answer it correctly would have made me look like an immigrant.

So, how much. £426 comprehensive for myself and HM covered comprehensively.

Or about double what I'm paying in France.
