housebeautician Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I have never, ever met a good honest builder! You aint looked hard enough Try researching a bit first and asking around, there are a lot of good guys out there, if you can be bothered to look and are willing to pay a reasonable price. But hey ho you can only go by your own experience, its a shame that you have only met some crap ones. We are easy targets for programs like cowboy builders. When will we see programs like Cowboy solicitors, doctors, estate agents blah blah blah...............AND of course we must not forget the good old cowboy CUSTOMER. Edited to say....At least as a builder i have paid my wscc subs which is more than i can say for you. Quote

Bob Green Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Whoa. Hold back there. I am not discussing being a customer, just a home owner for a number of years who see the flaws of A N Other who would not make the fixture and fittings the way and engineer the way around the issue as I would do. That’s all. Quote
Blatman Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Maybe the customers are cowboys 'cos they decide to do the job themselves instead of waiting for the [insert tradesman here] who didn't turn up... again... Quote

slater Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I QUOTE I have never, ever met a good honest builder! They seem to be the most dishonest, unreliable ******s ever. The don't turn up when they say they will, the never finish a job properly and they always leave a b****y mess! Cowboy Builder must be the easiest programme in the world to make as everyone seems to be exactly like you see on the programe. Just shows the the NHBC guarantee is pretty worthless - they obviously don't even trust the people in their own trade! Builders - Pah; wouldn't even p**s on them! With an attitude like yours no wonder no one turns up, but the again I can be a little forgiving as I see from your profile that you live in scotland, and all your decent builders are working in England Quote

Ohhhhh, believe me I've tried very hard to find a decent reliable builder over the years; but it seems they are like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow - they just don't exist! They are such an easy target for a TV programe because all of them (IME) are just so unreliable, dodgy bodgers! What happened to the CUSTOMER is always right - I thought that was parramount in customer service? I never loose my temper with them face to face and I am always Polite - i don't think being 'arsey' with someone you are trying to convince to do work for you ever works I'm now doing a nightschool course to learn basic skills so i don't have to depend on others! Sorry, maybe you are very good, but your fellow tradesmen must be the most unreliable/dodgy people in the UK! (IME) Quote
housebeautician Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I'm now doing a nightschool course to learn basic skills so i don't have to depend on others! And your probably be taught by an ex dodgy builder which will make you a dodgy do it your selfer. As in all walks of life there is a minority that spoil it for the rest and to add, you as a customer should not have to convince any tradesman to work for you. most tradesmen worth there sorts will know if you are worth working for, or if your a waste of space and a time waster. As i said there are a lot of good guys out there, they can be found you just have to check them out and do your research. I have no problem with that personally and can show letters of recommendation and give names of previous customers for a prospective client to ring and visit. I am not alone in this. And one more thing, Try and find one who isn't afraid to put his name on the side of his van along with his home phone no and not just a mobile no. And when you ring it does he answer it however busy he is. Happy hunting. Quote
echoz Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Must every relaxed bit of a rant thread turn into sorry shouting not being a home owner I have no opinion Quote

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 The majority of our work is either repeat or by recommendation; the great thing about the recommendations, is that if you're careful/diplomatic you can effectively get a "recommendation" for what the potential new client's like from the same person that's just recommended you to them er, IYSWIM Quote
