Bob Green Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 OK. I have a real bleat here. I thought I was residing outside the exclusion zone of Birmingham, you know, Derbyshire. OK, I married a Brummie but that’s my penance but I am sure this tale of woe will ring a few bells. I had to remove the panel along the side of the bath to carry out, what would seem to be a little maintenance job. Suffice to say, it took me near on 4 hours to remove the panel without damage because Benny decided to fit the bathroom THEN tile around it. Effectively, there was no hope of “springing” the panel out which resulted in using a diamond grinding disc to place a bevel on the tiles. This really goes against the grain as surely folk think these things out before carrying out stupid decoration after the fittings are in. What are your memories of incompetent builders? Quote
Blatman Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 QUOTE What are your memories of incompetent builders? Well, a mate of mine was doing some "routine" DIY on his bath recently and it took him four hours 'cos of a shonky builder... A'ernoon Roberto Quote
Bob Green Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Har’noon (as we say within the mix of civilisation). Almost Déjà Vu. Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 had our kitchen done a few years ago - we found 3 layers of wall tiles on the wall all the way around kitchen was twice the size by the time they were all stripped away lazy b*****ds Quote

cidersurfer Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 So who's fault was it? The plumbers or the tilers? Quote
housebeautician Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 So who's fault was it? The plumbers or the tilers? The home owner Who ever it was should have got a pro to do it. Fit the bath first, then tile the walls, then fit all panels and rest off suite and furniture. Remove pan and basin and furniture and then grout. Refit rest of suite, furniture, rad, and rails and bath panel, then seal all required joints. Just my way of doing it Trouble is the plumber tends to just do plumbing (Not in every case) and the tiler just does tiling and nobody gives a toss about what the next trade has to do, to do his job. The job needs to be managed by a competent multi skilled tradesman. But if the home owner dont know........... Most of the time its all about price, people dont want quality, it's all about "that will do". Sad but true. Just to add, i have (And i kid you not) lost jobs for as little as a fiver. Hey ho! BTW Bob this ain't a dig at you Quote
Guest Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I have never, ever met a good honest builder! They seem to be the most dishonest, unreliable ******s ever. The don't turn up when they say they will, the never finish a job properly and they always leave a b****y mess! Cowboy Builder must be the easiest programme in the world to make as everyone seems to be exactly like you see on the programe. Just shows the the NHBC guarantee is pretty worthless - they obviously don't even trust the people in their own trade! Builders - Pah; wouldn't even p**s on them! Quote

Bob Green Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 BTW Bob this ain't a dig at you And I never took it that way. My way of doing things correctly is to place the decorative on the walls by measurement, then fit the ancillaries such as baths, sink etc. Of course, I could have got it wrong. I don’t think so. cidersurfer Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 So who's fault was it? The plumbers or the tilers? The home owner Most likely... Quote
Bob Green Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Nah. The fittings were made by the previous owner who clearly, didn’t have a clue. Quote
cidersurfer Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Clarification so that Bob is not implicated... The home owner at the time of the modifications... Quote
