My westy's hood has 3 studs missing, and it's my only car :) so when it rains I still have to use her.. and even though using a hood isnt a lot of fun, I reckon it's better than the alternative.

So .. is there anyplace to either get replacement studs.. or get the hood reapired.

Thanks for any help

Roger.

What do you mean by missing? If they've ripped out and damaged the hood then I'm not sure but if they're simply not there I'd try the factory. I'm sure they could supply some.

Same here - going to try and plug some leaks this w/e ;)

Very easy to get replacements, all the main mail order suppliers sell them, Europa etc.  If not try your local camping shop or marine chandlery shop.

cool cheers dave.. and hax, yeah it looks like theyve been ripped out.. cos there is a small hole, about 1"-2" accross where they have come loose, however I reckon a bit of leather/canvas could be stiched accross the holes easily enough, which would provide a place to bind new studs.. the 3 missing are all in the top right hand corner of the windscreen, so it's gotta be mended. Since you mentioned leak pluggage, do you find that water sort of fountains or spurts up the outside of the car and inside the excuse for a door making your elbow/leg/torso wet?  :)  I still love it 6 weeks after getting it, and the insurance is way cheaper than I thought it would be, just trying to make it slightly more practical (and dry). :D

Best way to stay dry in a Westfield is to wear waterproof clothing.........

I've got a few spare - PM me your address and I'll send you a few.

Especially badly because I fitted the retaining straps right at the back of the sidescreens (when the hood was not on). When re-fitting the hood I found I couldn't do 'em up   :durr:  Gonna move them at the w/e onto the lower half of the screen so that it holds them tightly against the side of the car......hopefully.

You might want to think more about this... :p

i was comparing my westie to a friends today on this exact point. His has the sidescreen strap at the bottom (down by his elbow), mine has it at the back (nearer my shoulder). Both our hoods fit fine but he has real problems with a wet elbow while I do not.  :)

My theory is that on his setup the strap at the bottom doesn't really pull the bottom of the door in properly, especially as the rear of the door is effectively unfastened and flaps around a bit. On mine, the rear is firmly held in (in fact a little to firm, it is a really bu**er to do up! ) and I have bent the sidescreen frame so the bottom of the door pushes hard against the car side when the strap is done up. That way I find I have pretty good contact all along the bottom of the door. I couldn't do this properly if the strap was at the bottom of the door.

The downside is that my strap is harder to do up than his as  I have to twist and reach over my shoulder whereas his is easy to reach with his left hand.

Don't know if any of this makes sense?? ???

Now if only I didn't get water coming in at the top of the screen and spraying me in the face!  :0

the retaining strap on mine is at the elbow position too... I'll have a look at moving it, might be easier to just plug the hole with a bar towel when its wet. Odd cos you'd have thought that the strap being at the bottom would have helped..Toby have you got any pics of your sidescreen?

Thanks for your offer of the studs, I've sent a PM.

I moved the straps and made sure they held the bottom of the screen tightly into the side and it's now much better :)  Only problem is they're a bit tight and real b******* to do up; sure they'll loosen off soon.

Anyone else found that when driving fast (~70) in heavy rain that you get two jets of water in the face as water runs back up (that's right up) the scuttle sides, under the screens and into the cockpit??  Really bizarre  :D

Anyway, now to locate & plug the real leaks....

My retaining strap is also at the back as I thought that the manual recommended position would put undue strain on the strap and not actually pull the side flap in anyway. I have found this position to work very well indeed on the ( VERY!! ) rare occasions when the weather has caught me out ...
