Mike T Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Hi I am looking for some advice on if the Westfield "RAC" roll bar is still OK to use. I have done a search but am still not sure. I will be running in road going class so by my reading of the blue book a roll bar is still recommended rather than required. Any guidance much appreciated. Mike Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 as defined by blue book - nope, as to whether the scrutes at events will stop you competing - doubtful although many have moaned and compared notes If you have one already fitted and sit at least 50mm below the top you'll probably get away with it and just a few moans ........... Plays Kool Motorsport have a fully braced roll bar available that complies with current MSA Bluebook - give Luke or Nick a call Quote
Mike T Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 Thanks Mark. So even though it is not required to run a roll bar if you have one fitted it must meet blue book. Is that the view scrutineers take? Mike Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 yep farce isn't it not mandatory for roadgoing, but if fitted must comply to be honest if I were still competing I'd replace my bar with one from Plays Kool and sell the other on for a trackday / road car .......... PKM bar is much better for competition use Quote
davidgh Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Truth is that, whilst scrutes may moan, they will almost certainly not disqualify you because you could simply remove the bar to become compliant (Mark's "farce" point) -- and if you subsequently rolled it they would look pretty silly. Real point is that, if you rolled it without having maximised your protection, you would look rather worse than "silly". It's your head -- how valuable is it to you? Quote
scott beeland Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Can't see how the WF (braced) bar would be insufficient in a roll if it gave the required minimum helmed vs tarmac clearance. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 and we don't want any volunteers to test it Scott You may consider it acceptable and it might well be - the fact is that it does not comply with current MSA Bluebook requirements and should not be sold as RAC - the roll bar never has carried any RAC/MSA approved stickers certification Quote

Lumme! Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Minor hijack of thread... . I note that, according to their website, the PlaysKool roll bar only appears to be available for wide-bodied cars. Assuming that's the case, is anyone aware of a source of MSA compliant bars to fit a narrow car? I have run a search or three and failed to find anything conclusive. Thanks in advance. Lumme! Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 speak to Luke or Nick at PKM they may have something suitable, if not try ProComp Quote
Emma Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I have a second hand custom made bar that would fit the bill. It could do with a like of paint but it would be high enough to do the job for all but the most lanky. I could be tempted to part with it.
