passed SVA at Southampton

I did it, I passed my SVA yesterday morning at Southampton after doing all the bits they wanted me to do :)  :)  :)  :)

I booked it in for an MOT immediately, and it passed that as well :)  :)  :)  :)

Only trouble I had was with the emissions, both at the SVA and the MOT. Running a recon pinto with high torque cam and brand new dcoe 45's. So had to lean the mixture right down till it started popping and banging before it would pass CO2, and would only pass Hydros at 2000rpm. The SVA tester thought that the popping and banging might be a problem for the noise test, but it passed at 4500rpm 98.5db!

I did have a bit of an issue with the MOT people, as on one of the threads on this site, it says that a kit car which will be Q reg'd doesn't need an emissions test, only a visual check. However they insisted that it be tested at 1986 levels (age of the engine), so I had to do all of the above again! I suppose that may have been because I don't yet have a Q plate, but it's of no consequence as I passed!

I'm am to say the least, a bit chuffed! Now to get the thing licenced!

Well done - feels great doesn't it? Best bit is you have the whole summer ahead of you!

Good job you're not in Bristol - took me 39 days! (including 4 phone calls & 3 visits)

Just got to get the plates made up now....  :D

Why the #### do you have to have an mot after the sva. Isnt the sva just a super mot. Just another way of getting cash out of us :arse:

Steve,

my sentiments exactly! I don't understand why they don't issue an MOT at the same time as they issue you with a MAC. When you've paid £180 for a MAC, £150 for the test and another £30  for the retest, they could at least have the common courtesy to give you a free MOT, or at the very least some Tesco club card points! (I got 60 at my MOT!;)

Well done that man.

I registered my Megablade this week on the same day as the SVA test. Went to the VRO with all the paperwork, had to queue for 45 minutes and then waited 10 minutes for the tax disc and registration number, no MOT required but it is on an 03 plate. All in all very impressed to do so quickly and smoothly, but then again this is Manchester :D  :D

There are a few things you can get through SVA which would fail MOT. At SVA I was told that inadequate handbrake lever reserve travel was only an 'advice' item but would fail an MOT. Don't think they check tyre tread depth at SVA either, just rating.

I didn't need to get an MOT either - it seems a bit hit and miss between different VROs.

Do you get a campaign medal for passing SVA at Southampton?

Mine goes to Shrewsbury on Monday, wish me luck  :)
