I've a narrow with live axle and drums, so that is pretty much the lightest chassis. Only alli pannels, no trim, Plastic seats and no boot box. No screen?heater etc. Small alli dash and 11" wheel. Silvertop Zetec, and 4 speed box, alli bellhousing. alli rad, alli rack mounts, dry cell battery. Alli hubs and callipers, 13" revolutions. Cut down small fuel tank.

So what an earth would be next?

I've an alli case for the gearbox and alli shocks to go, but other than drilling holes i am at a loss.

I've posted this before, I have basically the same spec as you, the only real difference being an XE engine over your Silvertop.

Standard SE chassis

Regular bodywork

Live axle

VX engine

Original Spax shocks and springs (badly need replacing)

Alloy bell housing

Alloy callipers and hubs

Small battery (PC 625)

Plastic seats

No interior panelling

25 litre fuel tank

Standard 5 speed box

VW Polo radiator

RAC roll-bar from Westfield

13" wheels with A021r's (Ford RS)

Custom wiring loom, all non essentials ripped out

Playskool aero-screen

No heater

No boot, carbon sheet

Stick on number plates

So, no real difference over yours yet mine is ~515kg with a full tank of fuel. ??? I cannot explain where I lost 30kg, the best way would be to line up our cars side by side to try figure it out.

The devil is in the detail with getting the weight right down. Look at everything and ask your self could it be lighter. The rear number plate on my car is a stick on type. That saved 300g and cost less than a tenner.

Nail on head! Reg plates are surprisingly heavy mine got changed to 1mm carbon for this reason still heavier than a stick on though  It is possible to save weight with little things such as nuts and bolts and it all adds up.

The RAC roll bar ( I'm not going to get into the whole safety aspect) is heavy with those supporting struts so alot of weight can be taken up here. But as matt says look at everything with a view to making it lighter

I do have a full cage which is not the lightest of elements. A lighter flywheel is on the cards, the current one is about 6Kgs, and cortina uprights/alloy shocks to replace the westfield pressed steel and steel AVO's.

That said the car is already plenty quick enought on the road and more than enought for me on track. Not really sure why i get so hugh up on this weigh thing, it's not exactly a bloater. If i went on a diet it would have the biggest impact.

Antony,

I recon i've a bit in my bigger lights, cage, Loom, wheels and tyres, westfield uprights. Would be an interesting comparison though.....hampshire is a bit of a treck to establish a point though.

I do come up Cambridge way to visit the Father, I could bring the Westfield one trip.

Judging by the comments on how to save weight, I guess my car weighs about 3 tons if you include the radio.
