Agreed i travelled 2500 miles in a week in them once and found them fine .

as for weights , 2.0 zetec  with full cage 535kgs , but that might have been down to

no alli on car anywhere all carbon

Race weight bodywork

carbon seats

carbon wings front and rear

carbon mirrors

carbon aeroscreen

that and a large proportion of other lightweight parts except the driver.

I never see how some of these weights get achieved. I've a zetec narrow with nothing in or on it except alloy/small or lightweigh versions, even a 4 speed box to save weight. Yet fully wet (full tank) it is 545Kgs. Where do people save the weight?

Every where!!!

Do i need this, can i do without that?

tbh you can get very anal about the whole thing weighing every bolt that comes off  :D not that ive done this of course ;)

mine was weighed by pro comp last time they set up the geo, Carbon is my freind in so many way's but belive it or not I saved 9kg just changing from the silver top to the black top! ali bell housings, diff nose, hub's titanium bolts duralinium wheel nuts, ali calipers to name but a few.

I even took apart my trailer lights and replaced the backplate with carbon! :D  do you have any idea how heavy those  plates are?

recently saved almost 3kg by changing ali tunnel panels to carbon and losing the carpet 3kg's!!!!

Every little helps

I've a narrow with live axle and drums, so that is pretty much the lightest chassis. Only alli pannels, no trim, Plastic seats and no boot box. No screen?heater etc. Small alli dash and 11" wheel. Silvertop Zetec, and 4 speed box, alli bellhousing. alli rad, alli rack mounts, dry cell battery. Alli hubs and callipers, 13" revolutions. Cut down small fuel tank.

So what an earth would be next?

I've an alli case for the gearbox and alli shocks to go, but other than drilling holes i am at a loss.

What do the wheels weigh? I've got 15" ultra legera's pretty much the lightest you can get without going completely stupid! My car started out at 615kg I saved almost 6kg per wheel! I run the tires at 16psi (less air) live axel as well with Ali nose Ali bell housing and hubs, light weight calipers and discs all around, carbon everything the only remaining carbon panels are the floor.

If I can make something out of flat carbon I will all my rad brackets are made in carbon and the rad is Ali, dry cell battery, pathetically small washer bottle less than half a litre ( but how often do you use it) carbon tunnel carbon bulk head, carbon interior panels, steering wheel dash etc, carbon nose front wings  scuttle,  ttv light weight fly wheel Ali bell housing digi dash, durilium wheel nuts (4 of these weighs the same as 1 normal one)

I have even removed the spare wheel bracket's from the chassis and spare fibreglass from the tub at the same location, loads of Ali & titanium nuts. & Bolts etc air box, trumpets and outer caterham r500 airbox all carbon along with headlights & indicator pods in carbon, ali starter, Ali shocks and of course attention has been paid to unsprung weight.

It's been a long term development but the rule I have built the car by is what ever I replace on the car the new part has to weigh less than the original part even if its just by a little bit.

I know I can save a huge amount of weight by losing the windscreen, heater & wiper motor and I have a long term plan to get another scuttle with justa areoscreen which I can interchange at will and easily, I havent done this yet because I enjoy the comfort of the car and its a road car with a very ocasionsl track day, but I came back from switzerland in one hit and was comfy all the way, I wouldent have enjoyed the journey as much had I had an aeroscreen and no heater!

according to Google the Duratec is 35kg lighter than the Zetec.

So a figure of 605kg to 650 kg is likely for a Zetec car IMHO

Think yours would be alot Heavier than that if you left your Wallet in it Mate    ???    :suspect:           :D      :p

The devil is in the detail with getting the weight right down. Look at everything and ask your self could it be lighter. The rear number plate on my car is a stick on type. That saved 300g and cost less than a tenner.
