gjbspark Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 hi all can anyone tell me an accurate weight for an SEIW (ZETEC/LSD/screen/carpets/htr) thanks Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Roughly anywhere between 500-750kg. A few more details as to the spec would be handy to help others answer more accurately though such as whether it has a screen, heater, carpets, padded or shell seats etc. etc. Quote
jim_l Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Been discussed at length as you probably guessed, and no-one can give you an accurate weight, too many variables. I'd suggest you are starting at about 600Kg with a 2l zetec, with your biggest influences being: What wheels & Tyres (up to 5Kg a corner difference) Seats (up to 11Kg difference) Hubs and Calipers(10Kg difference Ali to standard) Battery (6 Kg less with a small battery) You see...approaching 50 Kg on just four components.... Welcome, by the way... Jim. Before Blatters suggests it.... do a search, use 'and' to narrow your results. There is a database of car weights out there but I see it is currently unavailable. Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Jim is correct. Too many things make a big difference. My Zetec car started off at about 650kg its now sub 600kg. My sprint car was sub 500kg with a Vauxhall lump. This is just to show how big a difference there can be. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 You can also find surprising variations in the weight of supposedly identical parts, like bodywork, and I guess to a lesser extent chassis. A visit to your local weigh bridge is going to be the quickest way to find out what yours is. Quote
RedditchJay Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 mine was at NMS at 612kgs but with spare wheel still on Quote
Blatman Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Or is the OP looking for a weight to place on the VIN plate, or has maybe seen a VIN plate and is now unsure as to what it means? Quote
gjbspark Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 i would like to know what the weights on the vin mean but its the car weight id like to know guess i,ll have to find a weighbridge Quote
Blatman Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Weights on the VIN are the maximum loaded weights on each axle. As for what your specific car may weigh, as noted, it's pretty much anyones guess in a range from 500 to 700 Kg's depending on equipment levels... Quote
Bananaman Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Average for road going car with Zetec & screen 15" wheels etc... About 620kg's but as Blatters said could be anywhere between 500-700kg's depending on what bits are fitted. Quote
Steven (WE51STE) Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Sitting back and opening the bag of popcorn.... My 2.0 Duratec SEiW is 570 KG (Wet). It is fitted with :- 15" Wheels Spare Carpets Windscreen Heater Comfortable Seats. Although all the other components are lightweight ones ( Freelander Diff / Oz Supperleggera Wheels / HiSpec Calipers etc ). Regards Steve Quote
carpetstu Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 according to Google the Duratec is 35kg lighter than the Zetec. So a figure of 605kg to 650 kg is likely for a Zetec car IMHO Quote

Regards Steve why do you carry a spare with you? just carry some moose (and i'm not talking about one of Buzz's conquests!) As for comfy seats, the shell ones are plenty comfy enough, unless you got a boney bum Nana's Quote
Steven (WE51STE) Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 As for the spare and the comfy seats I was originally planning on doing some touring. I guess I could say having the spare on the back helps with the weight distribution although I'm opening it up for comments about the weight that's already over the rear axle. I've been in some racing seats and I didn't find them too bad at all. However, I don't think my back side could be considered racing model, more a comfortable bum. Steve Quote
