Clarkson says you're not a true petrol head

I have suffered my daughter buying a 147, while she was a student, Thankfully she managed to get shot of it, buit event then the altenator packed up on the day she was selling it.

Dad once has a 1966 1600 GTA, apparently it was one of 6 imported into the uk in RHD, had alloy bonnet, boot and doors.  Although it had been fitted with a 1750 engine after the original one was damaged in a front end accident.  Think we sold it for about £500 in the late 1970's.  Whoops!! would have paid to have kept hold of it! Beautiful car, but it was very unreliable, like broke down every couple of weeks or thats what it seemed like.

Had a 1971 Alfa 105 GTV Coupe 2.0... Beautiful car and way ahead of it's time (130bhp twin OHC, twin servo discs allround, 5 speed box, LSD) think it cost about the same as an e-type at the in the day!!!....

Alfasud 1.5 for me, it's the only car I've ever owned that depreciated in metal terms as fast as money

I had a 'Sud 1.5 Sprint Veloce.

It had been my father's retirement present to himself.

Lovely little car, very crisp but rusty as hell. The front wing became detached at the bottom behind the front wheel, and the wing would get wrenched outward when you opened the driver's door.

Still, went round France in it with Emma.  Happy days.

Eventually took the engine out with the intention of building a Minari but it never happened

Had a Giulietta. Twin cam on Dellorto's and a transaxle 'box, inboard rear discs and... well, rubbish gearchange, terrible handling, shocking reliability and p**s poor brakes. But when it went, ooooohhh that twin cam, twin carb sound track was :love::love:

Had a Cloverleaf 145 and a diesel 156, both ultra reliable and couldn't fault them.  For a diesel it had a nice growl from the 5 cylinder but I wonder what they look like ten years on  :D  :D  :D

Lived 1/2 a mile from the local Alfa garage and drove passed every day. Fell in love with a 1.5 Sprint Veloce    when I was 18. The handling was just fantastic and the engine, I loved that little boxer.

Trouble was, I could afford to buy it but not insure it so never did own one.

My brother had one...... that was close enough for me! Driven 156's, GTV, 147 and 33. None of them really excited me.

No Alfas in our family (nor, after my HR director bought a Brera, are there ever likely to be). Ergo, cannot be proper petrol heads. However, we will continue continue to collect and compete in Se7ens even knowing we are pseuds.

Never seen the attraction myself and I take exception to the inference that I am not a petrol head due to this.

Best cars I have owned for differing reasons and the only one in particular order is the Westfield.

1) Westfield SEiGHT

2) BMW E90 330i SE

3) BMW E46 330i Sport

4) BMW E46 330i Sport

5) BMW E36 328i

6) Astra GTE 16v

7) Ford Scorpio Ultima Cosworth

8) VW Passat 1.8t 20v Sport

Like I said on other posts time to change from BMW!

I take exception to Mr. Clarkson. Pah, what does he know about cars. How hard can it be... and so on. I wasn't angry really just lack of emoticon use  :bangshead:

well weather we like him or not I would dare say he knows more about cars in general than most -  well apart from  fixing and building them

Alfa 164 with its glorious 3 litre V6. Best car I've ever owned I think just for the engine sound track. Bought with 130k on the clock and went over 210k before i sold it. It went like stink.

I remember taking it to le mans 1 year, had 155 on the clock at one point & managed to keep up with the westies through the corners much to everyones suprise.

I keep looking on pistonheads for a 166 now they are so cheap. One day I might take the hit on fuel and go for it.

I drive a 156 ts quite a lot at the moment too. Tis a good car.

If you are a petrol head you should like them & appreciate the oily bits.

Dodgy electrics were of German origin lets not forget so don't blame the Italians :p  :D
