dreed Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Will be entering speed series this year, Class A with List 1A tyres. Car will be used on road as well as racing so looking for tyres suitable for both occasions, I currently have Avon ZV1 which are not on the 1A list. I have read number of threads, but still confused as to which would fulfill both roles. Couple of options: new 1A list tyres based on your recommendations or buy new set of rims for more race orientated 1A tyres. What do you suggest please. Dave Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Toyo T1R's for me last year but that was mainly becuase I got them cheep second hand off ebay complete with a set of wheels and all for £50quid. I'm now using 1B's as my road tyre (yoko A021R) so I'm probably going to stick with them and move to class C to save me keep having to switch wheels between events. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 If you want to use 1A's then 15" rims are a must as nothing of any quality is availble in 13". The front running ones are Scudo Stunner (available from BMTR in Bormingham) and Yokohama Parada II. Marangoni Zeta Linea and Toyo T1R are OK but not as good as the first ones I mentioned Quote
cast iron Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 If your going to rank them then Zetas are better than T.1s In 2009 at Thoresby I was faster on Zetas and Ian Davenport on stunners than the rest of the class on 888's Quote
Rory's Dad Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 and zetas are £33 / corner - R888s £133 / corner (or thereabouts) Rory's Dad Quote
The Rookie Rookster Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 How do the Paradas compare the Stunners. Anybody have much experience with them? Here's hoping I've made the right choice. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Henry Moorhouse was using them at Harewood before he swapped to 1Bs and did very well on them Quote
davidgh Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Henry Moorhouse ..... did very well on them Some drivers can do well with pretty much any equipment -- I've always thought of Henry as a natural [Edited to correct spello] Quote
Arm Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Thats the problem looking at specific instances of cars, drivers and tyres. Its not scientific. Better judge on how the masses are doing but even that is fickle as people will copy each other. I dont think any of the tyres mentioned are bad. Quote
B5234FT Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Will any of these tyres stand sustained high speed/ high temp for track use? Quote
cast iron Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 when replacing my 1a's it will probably be pradas. 1'bs will be ACB 10's My zetas did track days 2 full races, and Le mans and back - never let them get cold Quote
The Rookie Rookster Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I've got a set of stunners so will give them a try (they have won class for last 2 years). Otherwise I would have been tempted with the Paradas. I always thought the Marangonis were a bit sensitive to temperatures. If you can get them warm enough the grip and feel is excellent. But can lack feel on a cold or damp track. I'm sure that there will be people that disagree with me, but tyre choices can be down to personal preference. Either way any of the 4 listed should be reasonably competitive. Anybody know much about the Kumho 1A options? They certainly cut the mustard in 1B this year. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 New ones that have been buffed to 4mm are the way to go. 2 year old used ones will struggle Quote
stephenh Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 1'bs will be ACB 10's Not planning on doing the Speed Series then this year? Quote
