Long range fuel tank

I've bought a 2nd hand Westfield long range tank with a single fuel outlet for my SEiW build. When I put it in the correct position, the fuel outlet wants to pass through the right hand one of the two flat plates welded into the back of diff bay, either side of the diff stabiliser bracket mount. I can move the tank slightly so that the outlet passes just to the right of this plate, but then it's almost in contact with the plate and I don't want to run risk of placing stress on it over time. Have I got an old tank for a previous chassis design? Can I just drill a nice hole through the offside plate? Any advice would be appreciated. :)

Are you sure you mean the outlet or the return line, I think you mean the latter.  In my case I used a 90 degree connector for the return to give easier cable routing and clearance from the diff.

Thanks for the advice, but it's definitely the outlet - there's no return and as I'm going to be using carbs I'm not too bothered. A 90 degree pipe will not get round the problem, but maybe a good idea for the reasons you suggest. The indents in the front of the tank (for the upper wishbone mountings) allow me to move the tank slightly but then the outlet is very close to the off-side plate as described. I'll probably just drill a half inch hole in the plate.

What a coincidence - I was browsing your build site yesterday looking for clues. No, my tank hasn't got a swirl pot which is why I thought it might be an older type tank. I can't imagine that this plate (there is only one - I looked again yesterday :durr: ) is structural in any way so I'm just going to drill it but I'll have a quick word with the factory beforehand. Thanks for your help :) .
