JamesD Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Hello all, I have conducted a search to find out what alternator I need for my 2.0L Zetec, I believe I need a 1.8 Zetec alternator with a 6 groove pulley, can anyone confirm which vehicle this is off (Mondeo/Escort?) and also if I have got my facts right. Even better if you have a Bosh or Lucas part number that would be excellent. I rang the factory but they were not very helpful and would not give the detail away, they just gave me the part number of theirs. Regards, JD Quote
RichardOlive Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Hello James, I've got an Escort 1.8 Zetec alternator you can have cheap if you want it. It's quite large and heavy though, have you thought about using a smaller (Diahatsu Charade etc) alternator? My number is 07985 803289 and I'm in Exeter. Richard. Quote
neilwillis Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 In the manual for Zetec Westie builds, the part number for the alternator is given as 92AB-10300FB. They make a mounting kit for it, and yes, you need a multi vee pulley for it. I have one out of a '96 Zetec engined Mondeo, it fits the mounting kit, and comes with the multi vee pulley as standard. JamesD Posted March 21, 2003 Author Posted March 21, 2003 I have a mondeo alternator also, but I thought it was the wrong one . I will have to buy the mounting bracket and go from there. JD Quote
DutchWestfield Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 James, I choose to fit a Daihatsu altenator to my car. This altenator is very small as can be seen in the picture: A lot of information about the proper pulley and the difference in size with the standard altenator can be found on http://home.tiscali.nl/svos/alternator.html I fitted the altenator below my oil filter, in this way the water pump rotates in the right direction too. You will have to get a bracket made.. Bye, Bertram Quote
garfield Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 I'm building a 2.0L Zetec and need an alternator too. When I bought the mounting kit from Westfield they wanted more than £100 for the alternator . I phoned them today and the guy told me that the make and model was a Lucas 17ACR and he didn't know what the model number in the manual refered to. I did a search and have seen them advertised for less than £50 Can anyone confirm that it is the Lucas 17ACR - I can't believe that there can be such a price difference? Quote
JamesD Posted April 10, 2003 Author Posted April 10, 2003 The ford finis part number for the Alternator supplied by westfield is 92AB10300FB It is off the following: Escort Mk5 1992 onwards (1400, 1600, 1800) Fiesta 1800 92-95 Orion MK3 92-94 (1600,1800) Done some digging around see Quote
JamesD Posted April 10, 2003 Author Posted April 10, 2003 P.S. The ford part number can be referenced by any motor factor, mine cost £80 (no surcharge as I had an exchange) Part number taken directly off an alternator in Westfield stock 2 weeks ago Quote
