Bob Green Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 "Westfield............ we can manufacturer anything............... Or buy in. Quote
markcoopers Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 True Bob, Jiggs no longer used as chassis purchased in, made in bulk from one of the Eastern business conections of Potenza's. To be honest it is a good idea, as there is a lot more besides in the deal, but yes not quite the "manufacture" tag any more. Hi Andy, My gleaming bodywork has been seen in the winter>>>>> Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 "Westfield............ we can manufacturer anything............... Or buy in. Caterham don't seem to have struggled to hard with chassis being outsourced, true, either to Arch or Caged, as long as cost and quality are satisfactory. Quote
Blatman Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Trouble is, I (and this is a personal opinion) worry about outsourcing being the thin end of the wedge. Given that, on the evidence seen from postings here about kits being supplied short of parts (still despite Julians first commitment to a few of us being "I'm going to introduce a proper pick 'n' pack procedure so it doesn't happen"), the apparent lack of telephone answering, lack of email response and lack of response to telephone messages, added to the reduction of the number of models available AND their non appearance or reduced presence at the few national events organised by the WSCC, it's difficult to see how Westfield are taking the brand forward for their existing customers. Sure, new customers may well be chuffed and the company may well be in the black despite the recession. But that's good for a relatively small number of people. If Westfield went bust tomorrow, (and ignoring the the problems that would present for the employees for the moment) it would affect parts availability only if you needed a rear upright, and that's assuming the company that actually makes the rear uprights doesn't start making them available anyway, so Westfield being in the black is good for them and irrelevant to existing owners (me) other than "our manufacturer" is still alive. So what? There are plenty of car enthusiasts running cars who's manufacturers have been dead for years. And yes I realise the counter to that position is that we see the people who are unhappy and don't hear from the people who are totally happy, so we get a skewed view, and yes we may well focus on the view that supports our personal opinion. Sadly my opinion of the factory is low and they have done nothing to raise it. I gave the new owners the benefit of the doubt and approached them with an open mind. I set the bar low. Then they limbo'd under it... So I guess that as an existing owner (I can't call myself a customer as I haven't bought anything from them in well over a decade) and an interested observer, my observations lead me to believe there's nothing worthwhile to see from WSC Ltd, and there hasn't been for quite a while. IF, however, the current round of what appears to be rationalisation/cost cutting results in a brand re-launch and/or new model(s) being launched or interesting developement parts for existing owners, or something that takes ownership forwards, then I will be needing a whole humble pie to myself. I hope my suspicions are wrong. I hope I do need that humble pie. We'll see... Quote
