mark.anson Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 The steering rack on my car is getting past its best and have been thinking of renewing for a while. Thought I might as well replace with a lighter titan rack to save a few ounces. Anyone know which Titan rack i need to get and which mounts. Also are there any mods that need doing when I do fit it . ie do I just use the Westfield chassis mounts etc Any other tips. Anyone selling one Mark Quote
mark.anson Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 Come on you lot. I know some of you have one of these so what's the secret. Quote
ACW Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 if you go for a titan rack, then they will design one to your specification and charge you for the drawing etc. However it means you can have it exactly how you want it however. I have a design done that I use, I believe MHC does as well. Quote
Blatman Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Titan Engineering I think mine is based on the fixed centre rack. It won't be cheap. It will be the nuts... Quote
Paul Aspden Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Mark, you will probably find that the lower column needs modification as the pinion for the rack will probably move towards the centre of the car. Whatch this as it can mean the lower column won't fit easily..... Quote

I think I take a closer look at the old rack to see if If it can be reconditioned but if not i will speak to Titan at Autosport. Quote

mark.anson Posted December 13, 2010 Author Posted December 13, 2010 Barney hasnt got one so they cant be necessary He hasnt got the extra 40kgs I have either , but im not sure a Titan would be much lighter anyway. I wouldnt be bothering if there wasnt some play in the old one. Quote
MartinH Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Barney hasnt got one so they cant be necessary <!--emo& He hasnt got the extra 40kgs I have either , Not so sure about that looking at Barney's profile Speak to Andy Rushworth about good racks I think he knows of a specialist company in the Birmingham area. Better than the standard racks available. Quote
Terry Everall Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Steves new rack from Andy is great and has a fantastic lock on it Quote

RWDKurt Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I have a Titan rack on my car. It was necessary when my car ran its ultra wide front end but starting from scratch I'm not sure it's worth the extra over a conventional rack. Looks nice but probably only a few hundred grams lighter, and required chassis mods to mount it. I have an old one you can use for mocking up if that's any use Mark? Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 You could order a Quaiffe replacement rack. Escort MkII we short inlet. They do a 2.2 now if you want a quick rack. Rally Design list them Quote
Blatman Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 My Titan is a 1.9 turn lock to lock rack, yet it maintains a proper tight turning circle Well worth it IMHO... Quote
8pots Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Mine has a Jack Knight rack with less than 2 turns lock to lock. Turning sircle is not ideal but I do not know what a standard one is like. Next time I see my car I will post a photo. Quote
