We have bought my daughter an RC car for christmas (shh)  next thing to look at is the battery side of things...

more importantly what we need and which fast charger to get...?

I know a couple of you on here have had nitro cars before... a little hardcore for her first one but... thought that there might be some idea and website to try.

I use a small Robbie charger, has serveral connections and several settings, charges both the car and handset {with recharable batteries}

Ive bought a lot of stuff from  ModelSportUK over the years, my local model shop to home is SteveWeb in frodsham which is a cracking place, and ive also had a fair bit recently from Midland Helicopters, including them getting me out a hole with my a group final year project.

Ive got a Ripmax Pro-Peak Varipulse 2500VP which has been a very reliable flexible unit for about 8 years now (NiMh, NiCd, 4 to 8 cells, 0.5 to 5.5amps, 240vac or 12vdc input) but at a quick google appears to have come to the end of the line but is listed here (all be it out of stock)

Looking at modelsportuk's site this looks like a suitable replacement.

I used the varipulse for all sorts, tx and rx of the nitro car, for the main battery of the electric, but also for the cordless drill as the charger for that died, and loads of other things.

Keep meaning to take my own 30 V2 into them and talk about getting some use out of it.

Aquired it from my cousins who (if you'l exuse the pun) never got of the ground with it but have since only had one got at flying it myself, not very sucessfully, followed by stoping before i hurt somthing (me) and becauase of head vibration worries.

Midland helis seems a fair distance for you however, where do you fly? My cousins live near Malvern and bought said heli from a local shop in ledbury (afair) which the one time ive visited seemed perfectly competant if a little stuckup and overly prepaired to sell expensive things to unknowlagable people.

  Would help to know what sort of RC car it is, in terms of scale for starters, What do you have with the car i.e radio gear servos, do you have a motor if so how many turns does it have (it should say on the case)  That will help with specific advice.

Would also help me as i have just inherited a couple of 1/10 Tamyia racers with the TA04 chassis for my 7 year old son. I used to race a fair bit (20years ago) and although the same in principle the battery RC cars have had quite a few advances in the technology. i.e where once there used to be an electronic speed controller that did everything they are now specific to the number of turns on your motor, there are also brushless motors for which you need a different speed controller etc etc.

The principle of you get what you pay for really does apply here, you can get going for a relatively small amount but you can spend hundreds on a motor and controller alone.
