Trackday westy and trailer insurance

Recommended Posts

My current Westfield is not road legal and I keep it and my trailer in a rented garage, I want to insure it for when its stored, being towed and ideally when on track. I had a quote of over £500 so far which I think is pretty steep, its a nice quiet part of Oxford so not SW1!! Any ideas whos best to use and who you would recommend?

Cheers

Have you tried the likes of Competition Car insurance or REIS (formally Richard Egger)?

I've got my wesitfield insured with REIS and they provide several different policies for road cars, track only and competition cars.  Mines insured with them as a road car but incuded in the policy is trackday cover and I also have a separate policy with them that provides fully comp cover and accidient damage for sprinting.

How much is this extra Smokey??  Send me a pm if you prefer.

Not sure I would want a combined policy without some clarification of what effect a claim would have. Lets say the car is damaged on a sprint (or track day) and a claim is entered. If it's a combined road/track policy, then at renewal time are you compelled to declare the claim to *any* insurer for *any* car you may want to insure in future, when asked "Have you had any claims in the last 5 years?"

I have always insured my sprint car on separate ad hoc policies for track days that are *entirely* separate from RTA insurers. I've never claimed, but if I did, as it was non RTA insurance, I don't believe I have to declare it for RTA insurance purposes...

I have just started using REIS for insuring my trailer, Westfield and camper van. Just over £500 for all 3 on a combined package limited to 12000 miles on the camper and 1500 on the Westfield

It's all done on an event by event basis as a stand alone policy separate from my road cover.

Price does vary based on experience (ie it gets cheeper the more you do) and certain circuits are more expensive than others but typically I pay on average £110 per event for an agreed value of £12K and with a 10% excess, thats having done 6 sprints this year.  For a two day sprint it's around £160 for the weekend.

Whenever I need cover, it's a simple quick 2 minute phonecall to give them the venue and date.

For the road cover they're not as cheep as Flux who I was with before, but they answer the phone immediately, are polite and it's always a pleasurable experience when I call them.  :t-up:

Nope - most sprints arent that long. 1500 is 3 x as many as I need but thats their lowest amount
