Nick M Posted October 22, 2002 Posted October 22, 2002 Oh goodness me !! Not the bl**** Dur(at)ex again !! Until I see it being cheaper than a 2.0VX to get similar or more power out of it on a reliable basis, or until I see one on a dyno or rolling road, then I shall remain highly sceptical of all the claimed or hypothesised power outputs. I will also remain sceptical of the claimed light weight of these engines compared to a VX engine. If it's anything at all like the Krap series then it may not be particularly durable in high performance applications - only time will tell. Equally to make an alloy blocked engine stiff enough for high power outputs using high revs you often see large amounts of steel being added back in to strengthen the engine. This is particularly true of the K Series. So please, a bit less hype a few more "real world" facts about this engine would be nice. Yes, it may well be the new VX. And that would be great. But then there's people out there that claim the Zetec is a great engine !! Who do you believe, apart from the stopwatch ?? [/rant] Sorry, but the engine argument is another one of those highly personal discussions where everyone believes their choice of engine is the best one !! Of course, those of us with slightly more objectivity know that it's not that simple - the decision to go for the 1.6 or the 2.0 Vauxhall engine is fraught with difficulties !!! Quote
Mark449 Posted October 23, 2002 Author Posted October 23, 2002 Ok, thanks for all your replies everyone. So the costs I didn't know about are $1200 for the dry sump and £400? for the electro reverse. Blade engine don't need to be dry sumped and engines are cheap but less power. I suppose it all comes down to weight but I don't want a bare 'racer', I need a few luxuries at my age, well at least a windscreen. I think I'm going off the idea................... 2 x Fireblade engines is the answer Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 23, 2002 Posted October 23, 2002 I need a few luxuries at my age, well at least a windscreen Which then means you have drag and the extra weight of a heater and wipers and stuff which defeats the whole philosophy / idealogy of a lightweight bike powered car - so get yourself a V8 instead Quote
