matt_c Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 John Herschel Glenn Jr.(Right stuff) & Mike Costin (Cosworth Engineering) I suppose I can add to that. A company I worked for was part owned by the late Keith Duckworth and I've had many chats with him when he came to the factory where I worked. He was really nice bloke (RIP) but always sounded like he was p!ssed, something to do with the tablets he was on after his triple heart by-pass. Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Had a track session with Tom Onslow-Cole. He was instructing me for about an hour. Nice chap too. Also had a chat to John Watson for about ten mins. Quote
Paul Edden Posted November 30, 2010 Author Posted November 30, 2010 Forgot to say - once had breakfast with Bobby Charlton after a corporate doo. Thoroughly nice chap Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Ayrton Senna. By a long way my most famous meet, and one that I'll always be grateful for. I was really surprised how small he was (but then I'm a borderline giant) and how quiet he was. You expect the F1 world champ to be a bit arrogant and cocky but in the couple of hours I was with him there was none of that, exactly the opposite in fact. Quote
stephenh Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Forgot to add, I was driven down a short forest special stage by Malcolm Wilson many years ago in a works mid-engined Rover Metro rally car many years ago. Quote

V 8 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Coco the Clown, stayed at our house when I was a kid. Worked with my Dad on road safety. Went to visit him. Had a massive house, but still lived in his caravan in the garden. Jamie Whitham, spectating on the bank at the IOM. Stirling Moss at the British Grand Prix Set up a mortgage for the Blue Peter presenter Simon Groom. Andy Legg, ex Notts County and Cardiff, Guiness book of records for the longest throw in. Quite friendly, drank together & played squash. Gary Birtles had an affair with the ex wife. Met Julia Bradbury six months ago doing a program on the canal locks outside Devizes. Alan Hanson at an airport. He got my mate to ask his wife for the football results while he was on the phone to her. We all chatted to him for ages. Nigel Lawson was on the same flight. My missus went to school with Sherrie Hewson. I know Steve D, but never had a conversation with him Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Not the most famous but have just served the explorer Robin Hanbury-Tenison. Quote

Mark (smokey mow) Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Terry Waite (Hostage) - Years ago while shopping in Norwich, just a hello and a shake of the hand. Sir Trevor McDonald (Newsreader) - I received my University Degree from him and had a brief chat. Rolf Harris - I was very young and have a drawing somewhere that he did for me. Lord Paul Drayson (Racing Driver, Team owner and former minister) - Earlier this year at a Media Day ahead of the Silverstone 1000k's, we had a long chat over a fine buffet lunch. Spent much of the time talking about green fuel technology and what he really thought of the former PM! No idea what the topic of conversation in the photo was though. Martin Birrane (Owner of Lola Cars) - was at the same doo as Lord Drayson Neil Primrose (Drummer for Travis) - Had a good long chat about music and his racing. Murray Walker - About 15 years ago at Brands Hatch, he was there watching the BTCC. We had a quick chat as he walked out of the circuit to his car and I got my program signed. Nick Algar (two times british sprint champion) - We talked over a pork roll at Curborough this year. Steve D (Living legend) - I was in awe of this man, met him twice now at Castle Combe and Curborough. Could've sworn I also spotted him driving toward Middlewich yesterday Quote
greenandmean Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Nigel Mansell when I was fire marshal for his pit at Donington when he and Brett Riley were in the Unipart F3 team. (showing my age now) Murray Walker at a British Motor Racing Marshals Club dinner. Long conversation with Fangio at the Birmingham "On the streets" prelude to the Super Prix, thought he was quiet then remembered he did not speak English, managed a few words of Spanish. John Surtees at Silverstone when he was running his own team. Baby sat Jackie Stewart's road car (granada) when he flew out from practise at British Grand Prix in 1977. He must be one of the nicest men you could wish to meet. Short conversations at the same Grand Prix with Colin Chapman. Quote
AidanPlace Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 The Queen Mother (when she was alive) in York Andrew Strauss at a golf day, nice bloke, kicked his A*** at golf and passed on a few cricket tips at lunch. Mid life crisis Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Had dinner with Damien Hill and Martin Donnely at Oulton Park and Silverstone when my then company was sponsoring their F3 team. Martin was the quicker driver until his accident. Brit Eckland special guest at a company Christmas event. My sales manager ended up getting a disaplinary for trying to touch her up at the end of the evening, having spent too much time in the bar. Lord Snowdon visited our company when I was an apprentice electrictian. Was amazed by his sun tan, as it was in Febuary. About 1971 I think. Sir Sterling Moss after he shunted a mates car. He was on his way to Ireland with a car and trailer on the back, and failed to pull up at a set of lights just outside Bangor, North Wales. We took him to a local body repairers, the owner of which was a fellow rally driver. The owner rented Mr Moss his Range Rover to continue on his trip. Quote
