I have found this info which I thought might be useful to other people.  It came from a chap called Jim Christie who was very helpful at the time as I remember, but I don't have his contact details anymore.

Ratio Fitted to

3.38:1 1600 Economy, 2000 carburettor automatic.

3.62:1 1600 Saloon and hatch, 1800 4-speed and automatic, 2000 carburettor

manual, 2000 fuel injection automatic

3.77:1 1300 (all)

3.92:1 1600 estate, 1800 5-speed, 2000 fuel injection manual

4.625:1 P100 (all)

I appreciate this may not be much help on the face of it. However, when you throw in the additional information that can be gained from looking at the "Axle" box of the Chassis or VIN plate of a donor car (this gained from Ford service literature):

Letter shown Ratio

U 3.62:1

B 3.77:1 (6.5-inch crownwheel)

M 3.14:1

V 3.38:1

U 3.62:1

D 3.92:1 (7.0-inch crownwheel)
