o/t - garage insulation

Am thinking that a dehumidifier, though expensive to run, is the only way (well, it's the way I'm going to go).

problem with that is you will be emptying it every five minutes. Its condensation that is the problem cold air and even colder walls etc. probably be cheaper to try and bring the temperature up a little.

Increasing the indoor temperature, increases the condensation surely (I have little control over the outside temperature).

Unlikely every 5 minutes to empty, I would've thought. Personal experience suggests otherwise. And even then, though it's not there yet, the next phase of garage renovation is to have a drainage point where the mains water comes in (and to have the dehumidifier draining into a sink).

A lot of garages don't have a damp proof course and that is possibly a source of the damp as are wooden walls.   Get yourself something cheap to measure the RH in the garage (A "weather station" from Argos or wherever that shows RH) to see if you are achieving anything with your dehumidifier other than using electricity.  You may well find keeping a good flow of air through the garage far more effective than running a de-humidifer  (just cos it fills up with water doesn't mean its achieving anything if the moisture in the air is replaced as quickly).

Do this before fitting sinks/drains etc IMO.

- don't forget RH is the % of moisture in the air that the air can carry. Warm air can carry far more  water than cold ( its how a dehumidifier works!). So an RH of 50% at 10C is far less water than an RH of 50% at 30C.
