nikpro Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 If I decided to put a new chassis on my car what would be involved registration wise with the 'new' car and selling the older chassis? Basically the car was registered in October 2005 and there is nothing wrong with the Old Chassis; I just fancy making some modifications to a brand new chassis from Westfield and then swapping everything over from my current car to the new chassis and selling the old chassis. and would Westfield sell just a Chassis? congorobot Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 After having a crash I bought a new chassis from westfield. They gave me a new one on the condition that when I collected it they got the old one to dispose of. Obviously in my case there could not be two chassis on the road with the same number. Quote
nikpro Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Does that mean I would have to IVA the car if I had a new chassis with new number? Quote
mhc Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Could be quite an expensive exercise just to weld a few more tubes into a new chassis. I believe that Westfield will require the old chassis before they supply a new generic one. There are other ways I believe, to reach a similar result. : Quote
Tigger Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Does that mean I would have to IVA the car if I had a new chassis with new number? Yep, it's a different car with a different identity so hence would need an IVA ..... even if you had ALL the bits off the old one on it, it's still an IVA jobbie Quote
lippydave Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Surely if the identity is removed from the original chassis and applied to the new one, the previous chassis can be sold as track/race only or scrapped?... I guess the problem arises if someone buys the old chassis to build a road car without a chassis number? Quote
thos Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 For a 'replacement chassis' Westfield will want to know that the old chassis has been destroyed. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Why not buy a new starter kit, mod the new chassis, swap the numbers, resell the kit at a discount? Quote
Rory's Dad Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 When my first Westfield was written off, Westfield physically cut out the diagonal with the chassis number stamped on to it and they then provided the new owner with a starter kit with the old number on it... Rory's Dad Quote
nikpro Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Why not buy a new starter kit, mod the new chassis, swap the numbers, resell the kit at a discount? That is the option John - trouble is selling a chassis that is five years old; even though there is no damage - people are going to raise an eyebrow when they see the receipt from Westfield showing it was sold this year. John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Tell them most of the trusth. its not like you will be charging full price for it Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Agreed with John be honest about it. It would not bother me to buy a good chassis second hand if I wanted one. Quote
CedricTheBrave Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 is this not called ringing? and you will be arrested for it now everyone knows Quote
