Paul Edden Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 2.05 mins; Articulated lorry drives past with clearly visible - and full size - fire extinguisher on board at a point in the fire where it might just have been caught with a full size extinguisher. Shame he didn't stop too eh Quote
pete g Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 good job fire service was not on strike.look like they turned up pretty quick 5min .unfortunely never going catch that in time Quote
SteveD Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 i would have p1ssed on it seriously thats a real shame Quote
Bananaman Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Couldn't watch it all the way through... I think the best bet is to fit a plumbed in extinguisher! Quote
deanoecosse Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 It's also on you tube. The owner posted a response on that site. Said the car is being rebuilt. As expected, he was less than complementary about the filmer especially as he was filming from a hotel car park (if I recall) where quite obviously there would have been extinguishers which could have saved the car. lomate Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 thats a extra few quid he made on ebay selling the doors rather than let them burn Quote
Lurksalot Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Its a terrible shame for the guy , but before we condem everyone for not putting the fire out, how many actually know how to use an extinguisher effectively and safely ? and how many have actually used one in anger ? It is not as simple as having a million gallons of water at your disposal . Quote
Richgm Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Its a terrible shame for the guy , but before we condem everyone for not putting the fire out, how many actually know how to use an extinguisher effectively and safely ? and how many have actually used one in anger ? It is not as simple as having a million gallons of water at your disposal . I'm trained to use an extinguisher and I've used one in anger so know what they are capable of. Hence I don't think it's worth carrying one in the car or having one at home. But on the other hand, (for a house) a fire blanket is a different story. Quote
RedditchJay Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 just got to carry the right size and keep it checked in date........ one that has stood and has solid powder or no pressure ........ = no good Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Your car wouldnt be big enough to carry one that would be effective enough! Most full size ones in buildings would struggle to put a waste bin fire out Feel sorry for the guy Quote
mikef Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 I too would have been tempted to thump the b*****d filming from behind the tree. I'm not surprised nobody stopped to help - it seems to be the norm nowadays. Quote
pistonbroke Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 You would need at least a 4 kg sized extinguisher to be near effective and that would be useless unless you could get it to the root of the fire . Better off checking hoses and fuel lines on a regular basis . Prevention is always better than cure Quote
Bob Green Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Articulated lorry drives past with clearly visible - and full size - fire extinguisher on board at a point in the fire where it might just have been caught with a full size extinguisher. That is very sad indeed. The problem with the lorry driver or a driver of a bus etc. is if they use their fire extinguisher to put the flames out, what happens if their vehicle catches fire 10 minutes down the road. I was taught never use your own extinguisher for someone else’s fire unless life is at risk. I know that sounds harsh but it is a reality. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Just a passing thought, but if the car drivers had started stoping, trying to do "the right thing", quite a part from placing themselves at risk, WHEN THE WF DRIVER IS SAFE, how would the professionals have got through the traffic jam in their fire engine? As I say, different if the driver was trapped, but it's just a car after that point. It's what insurance is for. And yes, I'd still feel gutted if it happened to me, but I'd feel far worse if some well meaning sort got badly burned or worse, on my behalf. Quote
echoz Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 True point gadgetman I guess at the end of the day its only a material possession, the main part being bhe got out okay Quote
