Stuart Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 I've just had a mail 'From the desk of David Chang at the Guandong Bank in Hong Kong' telling me I've inherited $8.35m and he wants to share it with me. Sinister twist is it's come by snail mail not email. He has 'asked a friend coming to the UK to post this letter on my behalf' So a bit worrying this one. Anyone else come across this? Stuart Quote
housebeautician Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Just tell him to send you 4 mill and he can keep the rest. Problem solved Quote
Stuart Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 He wants to keep all communication by phone or fax and the numbers are deffo Hong Kong ones. Where did these bar stewards get my full name and address from? It's not the electoral roll 'cos I opt out of the distribution of it. Quote
Stuart Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Looks like it's been around a while - this is it. Ah well. Would like to know where they got my details from (am ex-directory as well) but guess I never will Quote
mikef Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Ah Yes! David Chang aka Richard Umbugu from Nigeria. Nice man and generous to a fault. Stuart - you would be amazed at how many organisations and people have your address details. I think electoral rolls are a matter of public record and can be accessed by anyone? Quote
Terry Everall Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 I got same one a few months ago. He must be out of cash by now! Quote

Stuart - you would be amazed at how many organisations and people have your address details. I think electoral rolls are a matter of public record and can be accessed by anyone? No there are two versions of the electoral roll. One that they keep on record and one they can distribute. But you can opt out of the distribution one and I have for many years now. So just wondering where else they might have got it from. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 You can opt out of its contents being sold as a database, but anyone with a pen and a notebook can look them up - unabridged. AFAIK Quote
cliveboy8 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Invite him round for afternoon tea. Get a load of your mates there too. Tie his hands and feet. Put him in the boot of your car. Drive out to Hackney Marshes and dump him. Quote
mikef Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 I agree with m-o-t-c-o, anyone can access the electoral roll. What you have opted out of is the publication and distribution of it as a database. Quote
Stuart Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Well I guess that's the answer then. And relax. Thanks chaps. About time the Government stopped making everyone's details available in this phishing age methinks. Diabolical Hackney Marshes is bit far for me but better not tell you where I am in case someone wants to scam me. Quote
