Glen H Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Chrimbo Prezzy for our Zach (11 Yr Old) - I know he deffo wants an Xbox, but which one do I get - 4G / 250G / Elite / Arcade / Slim I don't want one that he has to upgrade in the near future so was thinking of a 250G - or can you use external Had drives? What about accessories - are the Wireless controllers any good / any to avoid, and presume he will want a headset - again - any good / bad. And as usual - any good (read 'Cheap') suppliers Thanks Glen Quote
BigRuss Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I wasn't convinced by the idea of wireless controllers before I bought mine, but they are fabulous, and I can't see myself ever going back to wired ones. The only problem is that they are much easier to lose down the back of the sofa as you can't follow the wires to see where they are! Is he going to use it online with xbox live? If so, then in my opinion 4G is too small. Some game demos are 1G and he'll fill that hard drive in a few weeks. (Mine is 20gig and I have to keep that tidy). You can get an aftermarket hard drive, but it's a pain to put in, and has to be a microsoft one. I'd also go for the smaller one if you can. It's got the wireless built in which saves £50 if you wanted to use it wireless, and it's supposed to be quieter than the bigger ones, plus it will hold it's value better if he wanted to trade it in for xbox 4 eventually. Around this time, look out for deals where you can get cheap games when you buy the console. If you're not into games, ask which ones he wants (or see what his friends are playing) as some of the ones they put in the bundles are awful. Don't forget that if he wants to play games on xbox live there is an annual subscription fee. Quote

scooby Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Speak to Neil B Glen - He will sort you out.... Quote
ljsanders Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 And you can only view Sky Player on it (no BBC iPlayer) and then to use that you need a Microsoft Gold account and a Sky Subscription - ******g cheek and a damn rip off if you ask me because Microsoft will sell millions more Xbox's if they allowed free BBC iPlayer, but the usual Sky/Microsoft collaboration and screw you for everything policy rules the roost. Blatman Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Yeah, why an X-Box? Why not a PS3, which has I-Player etc etc, as well as a handy media server built in Quote
Kiwi XTR2 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Yeah, why an X-Box? Why not a PS3 I can think of 5 reasons: - Halo - Halo 2 - Halo 3 - Halo ODST - Halo Reach Quote
