markg Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 if i were you i would flog the current narrow se and build a seight from kit stage! price up cosworth or vx perfomance parts my sd1 cost me £50 and had done 37k miles and a vdp efi makes 194bhp standard, add around £200 for gaskets and stuff and i have quite a good unit for not much money! including the gearbox! Blatman Posted March 13, 2003 Posted March 13, 2003 Blatman out of interest how much power will a Cosworth engine make by ditching the turbo and fitting a good exhaust and some say 45`s. With out going and taking the engine to bits? About 10bhp.......You MUST fit atmo spec pistons, 'cos othewise the turbo pistons leave you with about 7 to 1 compression. When I first built my cossie, I bought pistons from Cosworth directly (650 quid, ten years ago.....ouch). I had the turbo cams reprofiled to BD3 spec, and then built the engine (no change to valve size, no porting, etc). It gave ~180bhp. It cost £1500 quid, BUT, I got the engine cheap, like under 500, and that was 10 years ago, so don't forget inflation.......... "how much for the coosie engine" Bank on around 3-4K, more if you want more than ~200bhp......... Quote

Blatman Posted March 13, 2003 Posted March 13, 2003 NO, but with true 300bhp potential, it's tempting to start with 180, and develop............ I'm sure there are cheaper pistons around now, but at the time there weren't.......... Quote
Scotty H Posted March 16, 2003 Posted March 16, 2003 I have been considering the conversion from a x-flow to a v8, i have a wide bodied westie and was wondering if all the above applied or if the chassis would be able to cope with a v8. Quote
skid Posted March 16, 2003 Posted March 16, 2003 How do you no if its high line low line wide or not mine just has SE on the bulkhead, its meant to be a wide but l have never met anyone to compare. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted March 16, 2003 Posted March 16, 2003 a x-flow to a v8 Not that easy as V8's had a wider transmission tunnel and extra chassis bracing Skid - all Westfields had SE stamped into bulkhead whatever model it was. Higher line nose/bonnets first started to appear about 1988/89 when the CVH was starting to be used Since about 1990 on most have been "higher line" (but not all ) Quote
Mark Stanton Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 the bonnet rests on the top of my engine But that doesn't necessarily mean you have a low-line bonnet Quote
