dreed Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Can anyone help please, I'm up to Module 5 of my first Westfield, actually my first ever kit car, actually my first time of looking at any car parts. I am the proud owner a SEI 1800 Zetec or at least the parts, known when bought as the Summer Madness Model. Right, what is it I need help with. Can anyone in the Northampton / Milton Keynes area tell me where I can buy SILKOFLEX I understand from Westfield that this is the best product to use to fit the GRP demister panel to the scuttle. If I get a reply I promise to attend the next local meet. Quote
rob iles Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Dreed, Silkaflex comes in black or white and is used in a silicone/mastic gun,it takes about 24 hrs to cure, and is very messy makesure you have plenty of rags handy easily available at B+Q,Jewsons,Focus, local DIY shop we use tons of it,good stuff ! samcooke Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 < pedant > SIKAFLEX < /pedant > Available from any DIY shop or builder's merchant or boat builder's yard. Quote
rob iles Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Mr Cooke its not like you to be padantic. i,thought pisspot was the literary genius Quote
Linds Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 If you cant get Sikoflex then Tigerflex is a more commonly available alternative - same thing, different name. Quote
dreed Posted March 7, 2003 Author Posted March 7, 2003 Many thanks to all of you. I don't know why but I've been trying to find it in motor shops like Halfords. Never dawned on me I'd find it in a DIY shop. Again Many thanks. Quote
JimNoble Posted March 8, 2003 Posted March 8, 2003 There's also Loctite 5220, which is similar. Jim Quote
duncan Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 Personally I wouldn't use Sikaflex there. I used it extensively in the build of my car. Never again. It's falling apart everywhere after 2-3 years. It seems it ages with heat, so don't put it anywhere near the engine or heater. My vents have fallen off and I now have to take the dash/scuttle to bits to repair them I'll be using glass reinforced epoxy filler in future. Duncan Quote
