VDO Tacho Sticking

I've recently purchased a Speedsport and I would be grateful if any one could offer advice on how to fix the rev counter (it appears to be playing up).

I've noticed that the rev counter sticks at just under 5k rpm. It would appear to be working correctly until the revs reach this point. There appears to be no problems at all with the engine's performance as it quite happily revs well beyond this.
