TIG Brother Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 just make sure yours has the 'auto off' function Quote
cliveboy8 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 All I can say is tough! 30 day ban - lucky. If these gadgets are illegal he deserves all he got. A 21 year old in a Porsche 911 Turbo - hope he was insured. Anyway, soon all the cameras will be switched off as there will be no Councils to operate them. Quote
Bob Green Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 As I see it, anyone with a jamming device is someone that speeds, or am I wrong. Please don’t anyone tell me they are helpful when the driver may have forgotten what the speed limit is. I picked up 3 points last year because I was caught on camera for speeding. Do you know what; I was speeding and deserved the penalty. Not aligned to this thread but do folk think it is acceptable to break the law? I now await for the insidious comments regarding calibration of speed cameras, Police state etc. Just think of the inconsolable day when a speeding knocks your child down. Quote
Norman Verona Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Bob, I've been caught speeding so many times I've forgotten the number. For ten years I was doing 80,000 miles per year. However, aprat from once*, I've never complained. I've paid the fine, served the ban.... ... and continued to exceed the limit where the motorway was clear. I agree with you and in all the ten years of this driving I never had an accident and only once had a near miss as a car joined the M1 from the M6 and pulled right across all 5 lanes. *The one time I complained was when they did not follow me but saw me come round out of the tunnel on the Blackwell tuneel road near Victoria Park. They were coming from Vickie park on to the road I was on. Quote
adamnreeves Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Article doesnt say where he was speeding. Some will say speeding is speeding but I have only been done twice in 25yrs of driving both on motorways below 90mph. The first time was years ago and I was put in the back of the squad car. When the police officer decided to ask me stopping distances for 75mph to which I had replied the stopping distance of the car and he said I was wrong and I added oh you mean the total stopping distance including thinking time and told him that. He looked at his partner in disbelief and he got the highway code out of the glove box and said he is exactly right and I then said yes course I am but those figures are based on a maxi with drum brakes and my car has discs all round and the car in front of me was betond the stopping dista ce. I was told to shut up and given a producer. Now of course I exercise my right to stay silent! Quote
Rory's Dad Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I agree with Bob as well. Rory's Dad Quote
stephenh Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Just think of the inconsolable day when a speeding knocks your child down. I used to use a speed camera detector, but I didn't speed in built up areas, is was used on motorways/duel carriageways. I don't recall seeing many child pedestrians on those. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 To be perfectly blunt I agree with Bob in mos ways BUT dont use the arguement about kids getting knocked down. Wouldnt it be better for them to be educated not to play near roads and better still not to step out in front of cars regardless of what speed they are doing? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Wouldnt it be better for them to be educated not to play near roads and better still not to step out in front of cars regardless of what speed they are doing? The good olde dayes when there was education and common-sense with road safety such were the times of the Green Cross Code, The Tufty Club and Charlie saying what he says Tufty Road Safety Quote
RedditchJay Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Dont speed..... save fuel..... foookit.... its boring at 70mph... nothing happends exciting Quote
adamnreeves Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I never speed in built up areas and even go slower than the permissible 30mph if I feel it's warranted. For example you wouldn't do 30mph on a little side road which is a cul-de-sac. The main reason for me is fear of cats running out in front of the car who do not know the green cross code. Like many I am constantly running through worst case scenarios as I drive. recently I was done for speeding 87mph on a motorway on a Sunday afternoon and only three cars in the space of 2miles! This is just plain crazy. Quote
echoz Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 End of the day speeding is speeding, if you start changing the stipulations you start creating loop holes, and maybe i'm being rude and stereotypical but do you really believe a 21 year old in a Porsche 911 turbo was driving sensibly? Sorry I just don't see Daddy's best little boy obeying the rules i'm afraid. Like all teh kids round here putting photos on facebook with them driving teh car sat on teh window sil, leap frogging each other on blind bends, going thru red lights at 5-6pm when people are walkikng home from work, I could go on forever, but I won't, just annoys me that I get tarnished by the same brush all the time, the reason I can't afford to insure my car this year Lifes a b***h. Unlucky. Quote
