Cobby Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 Does anyone know how long the wait is from date of order for a SEW starter kit? Also is it worth getting the SEiW if the car is to be a weekend fun toy. Quote
Quick_Learner Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 hi - dont know about lead times soz. however if you're buying a kit new id say its definately worth spending a little more - ive not even driven mine yet but no one has ever said that its worth holding onto the extra cash that the independant susp costs. no doubt someone who actually has some knowledge will be along soon..... Pmaltby Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 Hey, The maine reason why i went for the IRS was the ability to use an LSD, it does cost a bit more money but you get the advantage of having the Indipendant Rear Suspension for the comfort factor and the LSD elps when you loose grip on one of the driven wheels. I believe you can fit an LSD to a live axle car though? As for lead time i would guess at about 5-6 Weeks. P.S. try to argue them for a discount or some free stuff(keeps the cost down! HTH Pete Quote

brianm Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 Take into account the the age difference betwen the mk2 escort and the sierra when comparing SE and SEI, like on average 10 years developement time Brian. Quote
AndyMoss Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 When I bought my kit I was tending towards a live axle as I thought it would be easier to put together, however Westfield persuaded me to go independent and I have not regretted it at all - easy to assemble and the difference in kit price was pretty minimal compared with what you will spend over the course of the build. In the long run if you want to sell it you would easily get the money back on the added value of an SEI. The area where your costs might be a bit more is the rear brake calipers and the Lobro joints. Another consideration is the hassle of getting the axle assembly modified - I would think it is much easier to transport a Sierra diff about than an Escort axle. Would recommend a visit to the Factory - lots of good advice and cups of tea on offer and well worth a look around. I went there intending to buy a CVH engined SE and left having ordered a Zetec engined SEI The Zetec perhaps ended up costing me more than I wanted ( but cheap Mondeos are a lot more available now ), but have never regreted going independent suspension. If I was buying now and out and out performance was not my main concern I think I would have a look at the single doner Sierra based kit as this looks pretty good value if you can live with a Pinto.
